The Zodiak Arts Lab was a vibrant experimental music venue responsible for the emergence of kosmiche musik and krautrock. Among the many artists who performed at the Zodiak included Per Sonore, Human Being, Plus/Minus and Tangerine Dream. In 1969, Roedelius was a founding member of Kluster and played cello alongside keyboardist Conrad Schnitzer on keyboard and Dieter Moebius on drums. In 1969, German record producer and musician Conny Plank served as the engineer for the first Kluster album, Klopfzeichen, which was released a year later. The original Kluster was short-lived, existing only from 1969 until mid-1971. After Schnitzer left, the remaining members renamed themselves Cluster, only to later be changed back to Kluster in 2007. They often incorporated unconventional “instruments” such as electrician signal generators and car batteries—today, Kluster is considered one of the most influential bands from the Krautrock movement. They produced three records with Brian Eno, releasing the first one in June 1977. Roedelius has been included in over 160 record productions and has collaborated with Brian Eno, Felix Jay, Kenji Konishi, and David Bickley, among many others. He is also founding member of Harmonia and ambient jazz trio Aquarello. ----- Emeralds was a seminal electronic music trio founded in 2006 by members John Elliott, Steve Hauschildt and Mark McGuire. Steve Hauschildt (b. 1984) is an electronic musician who currently resides in Chicago, IL. His compositions have utilized synthesizers, computers and digital processing to both honor and subvert established norms in electronic music. In addition to his work with Emeralds, he has released four full-length albums with Kranky, which include Tragedy & Geometry (2011), Sequitur (2012), Where All is Fled (2015), Strands (2016) as well as an anthology of his work on Editions Mego entitled S/H (2013). John Elliott (b. 1984) has been involved in a number of solo projects and collaborations including Outer Space, Mist, and his solo project, Imaginary Softwoods. Annual Flowers in Color was his first solo-length release since 2011’s The Path of Spectrolite--it is a double set collection of unreleased demos from 2011-15 described by Elliott as “a scrapbook documenting some of the fruitful experiments happening in private over the years.” He is also the curator of the electronic music label, Spectrum Spools and Wagon. He won the Cleveland Arts Prize for Emerging Artists in 2016. ----- Melanie Velarde (Berlin) has a background in Noise Music and Sound Art, with an interest in location specific recordings and performances. She has released under "Temporary Archives" a collection of musical compositions, a more cinematic approach to her various journeys through strange landscapes. “Parcel” was released in 2016 by RVNG (Commend See Series). ----- In memory of Dieter Moebius Conrad ("Conny") Schnitzler Conny Plank
