  • Last December saw the successful debut of Tokyo Dance Music Event, Japan's premier conference event dedicated to the electronic music industry taking place in the district of Shibuya in Tokyo. The multifaceted event will once again celebrate the pillars of the dance music world - production, performance and club culture - through a selection of panel and workshop programming during the day and a line up of sessions and performances from international brands and artists by night. Topping the bill is a worldwide exclusive from techno pioneer Jeff Mills, who will bring his first original 'Planets' installation to TDME. The undisputed legend of his field will use a multitude of speakers with different channels to reproduce his latest album which fuses classical orchestra and Detroit techno. It will feature electronic sounds such as TR-909 kick, ride cymbal and synthesizers, as well as being based on a real orchestra on Thursday and Friday in Hikarie Hall B. With many active sub-labels including Spinnin' Deep, Don Diablo's HEXAGON, Tiësto's Musical Freedom, Oliver Heldens' Heldeep Records, Sander van Doorn's DOORN Records, The Magician’s Potion and Blasterjaxx’s Maxximize - Dutch imprint Spinnin’ Records is a leader in the global electronic market. It is welcomed to this year’s edition, bringing its 'Spinnin’ Sessions' to Japan for the very first time including a set from EDX at Hikarie Hall A on Friday night. Tokyo’s seminal Club WOMB will be hosting two parties for TDME, first of which features the legendary Mute Records founder, Daniel Miller, re-igniting his DJ career thanks to an invitation from Karl O’Connor aka Regis to perform at Berlin’s Berghain. He will join Japanese DJ Takkyu Ishino at a special TDME edition of WOMB resident party Sterne. Enlisted to discuss and debate a variety of topical panel themes, the speaker program consists of influential industry figures from across the globe. Highlights include from the USA, Cherie Hu, media and entertainment contributor for Forbes and Benji Rogers, current CEO of dotBlockchain Media and a pioneer of the direct artist-to-fan model of distribution having founded PledgeMusic in 2009; from India, Anish Sood, award-winning electronic music producer & DJ and Prateek Pandey, owner of sLick!, India's leading brand for house and techno events; and from the UK, innovative consultancy, Music Ally’s Chiara Michieletto and Steve Mayall. Representing the market locally, attendees will hear from the likes of UI/UX designer and executive of Arsaga Partners Mayu Takahashi, well-known teen marketing expert and Drecom Co director Yukako Yoshida, producer of the Japanese festival Rainbow Disco Club Masahiro Tsuchiya, key player in the revision of the Japanese “anti-dancing” law Takahiro Saito, as well as Tetsuya Mizuguchi, best known as the creator behind critically acclaimed gaming titles including Rez and Rez Infinite. Attendees will also have the chance to interact with the event's brand partners as workshops will take place simultaneously in the Hikarie building. Ableton will host a meet-up focusing on the theme of "Fusing real instruments and electronics” with participation from critically acclaimed electro pop star, De De Mouse; and Monjoe from the indie band, Yayhel.
