Shrug feat. Luke Le Mans, Mic Doney vs Dbr

  • For our July line up we are giving some local Sydney talented artists a run. We’re going to move you from minimal and deep house to techno and prog and every danceable tune inbetween. Featuring this month are DJ sets from Tim Jirgenson, Luke Le Mans and Dave Stuart and semi-live performances from Mic Doney vs Defined by Rhythm and the Life DJs (playing their second set with us after playing at our opening party in December). What more could you ask for? *Shrugs* Tim Jirgenson Tim is one of Sydney’s local pushing a really great deep / tech house sound at present, his last release with Carlos Zarate (The Rabbit proof fence – Thug) really impressed, and we’re really happy to have him on board warming up for Shurg! He may not be as well known as he should, but his music speaks volumes, both production & DJing. In 2004 Tim took it upon himself to start producing and in late 2006 decided to make it into a career. Tims production and remix work has been instrumental in pushing him through not just as an artist but as a dj. In early 2007 Andre Kronhert ( Nightdrive Music Germany) decided to sign tims first lp ( Just Call ). Since then Tim has worked on numerous quality Ep's & remix's for labels both locally and abroad. Tims work has recieved great reviews and feedback from the likes of international artists such as The Timewriter (Ger), Luke Fair (Can) & Neutron (Ger). Locally he has been getting strong support and interest from DJ's & labels owners such as Dave Basek & Phil Smart (Junk Beats), Tom Piper & Elroy (Bambam Muzik) and selectors such as Mark Murphy (Spank Records), Robbie Lowe and Carlos Zarate (who signed him to Thug Management) . Its his nack for quality sound and production that separates Tim from your average Australian DJ/ Producer. This is evident in the interest from international labels and artists who are digging his music. Luke Le Mans (Trenton, Trapez records) After 7 years of Djing and promoting events in Japan, during which time his debut release on Trapez was charted at the top on Martin Landsky's (Pokerflat records) best of 2006 charts, Luke, now based in Sydney is preparing for the next great chapter of his musical adventures. Back in 2000, taking influence from the minimal techno passion of his Japanese peers, Luke added to this his love of Chicago house and instantly embarked on throwing the wildest events Osaka had seen. Bringing all the major artists of the mid 00's minimal tech house explosion to the city, most of them their first time. In 2006 a release on Trapez records with major support including the legendary Josh Wink and another release on Trenton records in 2007, Luke stepped it up and enjoyed bookings at some legendary clubs across the globe including, Bar25 and Club De Visionaire - Berlin, Club Womb and Unit - Tokyo, Bank Club - Beijing, and behind the famous grand piano at Honky Tonks - Melbourne. Since back in Sydney Luke been a regular booking at the Deep as F**k events and has commenced work on a new project with a partner, another recent alien to Sydney, which promises to deliver some very deep and pushing tech house mayhem. Mic Doney vs Defined by Rhythm Sydney’s favourite [BOX]ers are bringing their live vs DJ act to Shrug this month incorporating CDJs / EFX / Traktor / Abelton & korg vocoder/synth action! Originally from Belfast Defined ByRhythm relocated to Australia in 2002 and has been kicking a hole in the underground ever since. With his fresh take on the techier side of dance music, it's not only his knack for selection and programming that have gained him his recognition. Supporting the likes of Justin Martin, Alex Kid, Lutzenkirchen, Jesse Rose, Phil Keiran, Dixon, Ame, D-Nox & Beckers, Ewan Pearson, 2000 & One, Christian Martin, Ashley Beedle, and Joris Voorn. DBR is currently a resident at two of Sydney’s best techno parties, The [BOX] & Lost baggage. Also representing the [BOX] Mic Doney is bring his live work to the party alongside DBR. Mic’s sets have been quoted as “explosive and electric” and sometimes offer a dash of live synthesis or electronic (live) vocal. This diversity is what Michael tries to push in all his work with an ever changing, always evolving sound that drives deep into the heart of every Techno lover. Another one of Sydney’s unsung tech-heros I’m really looking forward to hearing what this partnership delivers at the Civic. Life DJs Life is production duo Rod Lee and Ken Knott. Taking the life ethos of pushing boundaries into the DJ booth requires constant attention and innovation. Spending countless hours in the studio and investing serious time honing their stage craft, the boys are consistently embracing new technologies to make their sets fresh, exciting and unique. Rod and Ken have now developed a hybrid live/DJ setup that incorporates Ableton Live, 3 CDJs, 2 midi controllers, EFX and Soft Synths to put the full gamut of their DJing and production skills to use in every single one of their sets. Pooling their creative resources together including original tunes, remixes and specially made FX together with the skills and knowledge gained from years of Djing means that during every life DJ set you are guaranteed to witness 2 performers leaving nothing on stage or in the booth. The Life DJs have a natural willingness to go the extra mile, an eagerness to make every set a unique and memorable experience. This boldness to fully embrace technology and outright joy they gain from sharing its possibilities to really put on a show is already setting the Life DJs apart.
