BKGD Audio, the latest project of producer Alap Momin. A former CBGB’s matinee rat, Momin’s rap crew Dälek toured the globe during the late-90’s/00’s, releasing seven full-lengths worldwide while working with labels including Ipecac Recordings, Matador Records, Southern Records, and Tigerbeat 6. It was during his travels that Momin first linked up with the dudes in Rhythm and Sound, a rendez-vous that would further shape his creative progression. His approach to composition mixes together high-energy drum programming and dense arrangements of synth, vocal chops and ambience, his work flirts with the raw power of punk and noise, while always keeping the dance-floor at center stage.
Merc Yes of Harlem, NYC, brings dense, gritty booty rhythms and shiny, melodic sweetness with his debut EP. Playful and bouncy meet gritty and heavy on Internet & Weed Recording’s third release. It might be what you’d hear in a back alley club a few blocks from Sesame Street. Heavy bass and beats, influenced by tropical bass and jersey club, get a glossy bubblegum treatment on these four new tracks. Female vocals, chopped up, shimmery, and often ridiculous, bounce on top of deep bass and aggressive grooves.
Merc has a history on the experimental side of several genres before emerging as Merc Yes. Previous projects include All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors, an experimental rock band with a world wide cult following as well as Ifwhen, another experimental project with live players, samplers, heavy beats and plenty of bass. As one half of the DJ/production team MRC Riddims, he’s has been spreading an odd perspective on dance music across much of the US and EU for several years.
Electronic musician Putra Fadhil also known as Artificial started producing music from zero in his college dorm’s bed-room from late 2013. He was inspired by the likes of Chaz Bundwick and Kevin Parker as bedroom producers. Two years on late 2015 Artificial released his debut EP Solitary State which has meaning of a moment of solitude. On his live performance Artificial creates an energetic yet ethereal atmosphere.
Reppin’ Harlem, NYC’s Internet & Weed crew, straight from the decks of the hottest clubs in Brooklyn (Secret Project Robot, Sunnyvale, Bossa Nova, El Cortez, etc.), BKGD Audio and Merc Yes bring the freshest sounds in Stoner Booty and Future Bass. With over 40 years combined performance experience, these two amazing producer/DJ’s will make their Indonesian debut at the SAFEHOUSE together with one of the finest DJ/Producer from Double Deer-Jakarta on February 24, 2018.
