  • Exclusive WORM-centric performance showcasing the results of A Made Up Sound’s artist residency in our own Sound Studios! A Made Up Sound (NL) Towards the end of last year we invited the Utrecht-based artist, known for his releases on Delsin, Clone and The Trilogy Tapes, for a residency at WORM Sound Studios. He spent a particularly cold and snowy week holed up there, sourcing sounds from his pick of the vast collection of vintage gear at hand, from relative rarities like Macbeth’s M3X, Synton’s Syrinx and Yamaha’s CS series to classic Roland machines and dusty preset rhythm players. On this evening he will present the results in the shape of an all-new live set, an amalgam of sounds drawn exclusively from the processed recordings. “With a lot of my work so far being mostly based on sampling, the opportunity to use a studio full of synthesizers and drum machines – including some unusual and unpredictable ones – felt like an exciting novelty for me. I entered WORM Sound Studios without any plans, just a rough idea of which synths I was the most keen to try out, one at a time, recording individual sequences as I went along. I figured I’d try and piece those bits together into something coherent only afterwards, in order to save the studio time itself for recording as much as possible. I guess that made it a bit of a leap in the dark, but through editing, looping and layering the recordings on the train home every evening, I think it came together nicely in the end. It’s certainly music I wouldn’t have made anywhere else. Rather than arranging it into finalised individual tracks, I chose to present it in the form of a loosely prepared live set, keeping everything from that specific time and place of recording together as a Yves De Mey (BE) Yves De Mey has pursued a diverse musical path; from breakbeats and UK drum’n’bass in the 90s to theatre and dance productions and large scale sound installations in the noughties. He is active as a sound designer and sound engineer for film theatre and TV, and has an all-consuming interest in modular synthesizers. In 2009 his album ‘Lichtung’ (based on the score he made for a dance performance) was released on the Line label. After this, De Mey released numerous records on different labels (Sandwell District, Opal Tapes, Entracte, Modal Analysis) to wide critical acclaim, with 2016’s album ‘Drawn with Shadow Pens’ (on Spectrum Spools) a highlight. He also runs the Archives Intérieures label with Peter Van Hoesen from Sendai. His latest release is 2018’s ‘Bleak Comfort’ on the French Latency label. Margie (NL) Rush Hour’s Mijke Hurkx aka Margie explores music as a writer and DJ, an interface where she feels anything goes. She started her ‘Margie’ radio show on Red Light Radio, which allowed her to play around with ideas for storytelling, resulting in a series of very divergent, curious episodes.
