  • A night of disco, funk & boogie funk. Let The Flinders transform you back in time with a wooden dance floor, xl disco balls, smoke machines and good vibes. This is an inclusive event where everybody is welcome. We have hand picked some of Sydney’s best DJs who have a particular passion for the sounds of the boogie funk. HAPPY HOUR 9-10PM Mike Who (Midnight Swim) Checked as one of Sydney’s most diverse and respected selectors, Mike Who's widely sourced taste and deep crates translate to sets spanning genres, generations and continents. He has put in work at home, a five year stretch manning the turntables on FBi radio's Wednesday night sunset slot saw him become a staple fixture at Sydney’s most loved underground institutions and a regular highlight at festivals and club nights around the country. With mixes via Stamp The Wax, Condesa Electronics and Gilles Peterson’s WWFM Mike consistently reps the sounds of the city he calls home while humbly influencing the masses. Regularly called upon to support internationals that come our way chances are you have caught Mike warming the room for everyone from Quantic, Hugo Mendez and Rich Medina to Raphael Top Secret, John Gomez, Amp Fiddler, Bradley Zero & Pender Street Steppers with tonnes more to heavy effect. Now one half of local Sydney based record label Midnight Swim, Mike is dedicated to releasing and pushing both upfront and undiscovered sounds from every corner of the globe. https://soundcloud.com/condesaelectronics/condesa-discrete-circuits-with-mike-who Peret Mako Sydney producer and engineer who has released on Warp, Floating Points, Multi Culti, Room To Manoeuvre and Future Classic. Peret Mako's music is highly textured, crafted with a love of detail and subtlety. Studying Jazz saxophone since the age of 11, he brings a players perspective to electronic composition; adding nuance and dynamics to his sounds through delicate production and mixing techniques. Lured to Sydney by the Techno scene in 93 Peret immersed himself in all forms of music in the genre ignorant environment of day. As a professional DJ since 1995; focused on scratching, Hip Hop and labels like Mo-Wax and Clear, Peret DJ'ed along side local talents such as Simon Caldwell, Ken Cloud and was Co resident with the much missed Illpikle at the Globe for over two years. Peret has also supported the likes of Charles Webster, Chris Duckenfield, Theo Parrish, DJ Krush, Mix Master Mike, Blackalicious, Cash Money and Craze as well as playing saxophone for Jamie Lidell's live show in Sydney. His production and mixing skills have seen him adding his touch to the music of Alphatown Collective, Nick Thayer, Little Beasties and Bass Kleph with whom he wrote the much playlisted Like Abort Juan in 2003. As a remix artist Peret has disassembled songs for Swag, Little Beasties, Deepchild, Kidzen, Prop, Nick Thayer and Multiball - his remix for the latter being nominated for a DMA award. Scoring the music and performing every night as part of the stage set for Sydney Theatre Companies production of Mr Kolpert Peret violently attacked a spring reverb for the final death scene which often left him partially covered in fake blood! After attending the Redbull Music Academy in Rome in 2004 he set to work mixing his debt album The Devil's In The Detail; the result of years of practice and interaction with music. Though a devoted hip hop fan, PM was never comfortable with the idea of sampling other musicians work, preferring a handmade approach. The techniques that evolved from these sonic meanderings form the basis of Peret's sound; letting experimentation guide his composition; Peret's obsessive personality playing straight into the hands of some squiggly synths and forgotten samplers. What was born is a finely crafted, rich, orchestral album - like Ravel and Mingus having a sound system battle over what oceans sound like. The influences of Hip Hop, Techno, Jazz and DEEP House, amongst many others, are woven into highly personalised style. The sounds cascade over each other causing the album to reveal itself over multiple listens; the details coming to life under the warm hug of a nice set of headphones! http://soundcloud.com/peretmako Jansen Brown At 15 Jansen joined the Sydney artist collective known as “Clan Analogue" and started performing under the moniker Hellman. Fast forward 20 years, and Jansen's passion for music and live performance has not waned. Local Bondi residents would recognise his voice from the Friday morning shows he hosted on Bondi FM. Jansen has also worked on the iconic Sydney independent station FBI radio. Having a strong grasp of club classics both past and present, Jansen has enriched the Sydney night life with DJ sets at some of its most happening night spots, including Chinese Laundry and Home night club. Jansen has also recently teamed with other visual and audio artists to form a group called “Modern Mystixx”. After their debut show, this group of artists, dreamers & visionaries were booked for the Australian Museum's “Jurassic Lounge” summer evening series and also at the Beams Light, Sound and Art festival. In addition to performing, Jansen also produces his own original compositions, and also engineers others artists' music. One half of Big Fun - a pillar of the dance music scene in Sydney. Big Fun was a concept conceived out of the depravity of the Sydney Venue Lockouts and a response to the high rents draining the night life from Sydney. Big Fun events offered the best DJs in Sydney, with an occasional international. The events were always free entry, on a Sunday and focused on the vibe and feeling of the experience had by their crowd. https://www.mixcloud.com/jansenbrown/dirtydisco-sydney-mardi-gras-edition-the-flinders-hotel-2018/
