Modern Hypnosis and Howler present an Australian debut live show from Kiwi duo Fis and Rob Thorne - a completely unique sonic project straddling electronica and Taonga Puoro (native Maori instruments translating to 'singing treasures'). Since their first recording sessions at Berlin's Red Bull Studios in 2017, the pair have released albums 'Clear Stones' on Berlin label Subtext and 'Ngā Parirau o te Kārearea' on Fis's own imprint 'Saplings Records' and performed in London, Leeds, Turin, Milan and Athens' Borderline Festival, co-billing with Mark Ernestus' Ndagga Rhythm Force, Marginal Consort, and Charlemagne Palestine.
There is no better space in Melbourne, than Howler for an event such as this.
In a kind of live-triptych, the pair will bookend their duo performance with solo sets - taking us from raw, unamplified acoustics to the full intensity of Fis' sound system sculpting. Completing the programme with DJ support will be Germany's PYUR, a recent favourite of Berlin Atonal, joining us fresh from her live appearance with Fis at Dark Mofo.
