Say Yes is throwing a back to back night at Elevator Shanghai as part of 3 year anniversary series, first night is bringing live from Broken English Club, project by techno hero Oliver Ho.
Say Yes has been struggling in techno field for almost 3 years in Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, Ho Chi Minh, cities in Asia/ China. Have booked Silent Servant, Derrick May, Matrixxman, Moritz von Oswald, Hvob, Tobias., Boris, Paula Temple, Sigha, Phase Fatale, Tadeo and many more. For the second night, having Batu from Hessle Audio/ Timedance/ Livity Sound on July 13th.
Those familiar with Oliver Ho’s fearsome and often brutal futurist early EPs on Blueprint and his more recent avant techno/house Raudive material will be aware of his ability to inject a dark narrative into functional electronics. With Broken English Club, he delivers monotone vocals and shards of live instrumentation over stuttering beats and bleak synths. The blank-stared, pin-pointfocused electronics and layers of noise betray no/wave and post punk influences, dragging together industrial experimentation and pitch-black techno.
From the beginning on Blueprint records Oliver Ho has explored techno in its many different styles, from his early dark electronic records to the more organic percussive grooves on Meta Records. All these ideas and sounds have been distilled down into the current project, Raudive. The sound of raudive takes the percussion of his earlier releases over the last 18 years and mutates it into a slower deeper sound, fusing the funk of house and the electronics of techno. The debut record on Klang Elektronik, "Audio ep" was closely followed by many releases featuring the Raudive sound evolving on record labels such as Klang, Music Man, Pokerflat, Get The Curse, Cocoon, We Are and Macro.
More recently Oliver completed his second Raudive album for Macro, "A System Of Objects". A mixture of strange exotic percussion, avant garde instrumentation and dirty machine rhythms. In the beginning of 2014 Oliver signed BROKEN ENGLISH CLUB to JEALOUS GOD, a label run by REGIS, SILENT SERVANT and JAMES RUSKIN. BROKEN ENGLISH CLUB takes the darker elements of RAUDIVE and pushes them into more industrial/noise post-punk directions.
This attitude for bringing together the different dynamics of various genres is reflected in the diverse dj sets oliver plays at clubs around the world from new york to tokyo to paris and back to london.
