On Friday, 27th July at New Guernica, we present none other than New Zealand's progressive tech goliath, Antix / Fiord!
We couldn't be more excited. Brothers Haydon and Barton Strom will be among the headliners at this year's Strawberry Fields festival as "Out of Sorts"!
From 10PM across the main floor and in New Guernica's kitchen, we're also showcasing a huge local lineup, TBA.

Somewhere back in the late 90's brothers Barton and Hayden Strom, fresh faced and a love for electronic music, formed the soon to be world famous.. ANTIX / FIORD.
Iboga Records in Denmark got a whiff of the new sound, and promptly signed the two brothers who then produced their landmark debut album “Lull” in 2003... The album won over fans and critics alike, and a string of killer live performances were made possible. Soon, the brothers were building a solid reputation as one of the most in demand progressive acts on the planet.

The touring trend followed as the boys started clocking in big festival dates to crowds in excess of 15,000 and performed in some of the most respected clubs worldwide. Follow up albums often have a lot to live up to and when “Twin Coast Discovery” in 2005 was released, the album demanded attention and once again placed Antix / Fiord as ambassadors on the world stage.
In 2007 the boys raised the bar even higher with their next installment entitled “Wanderers” and the follow up DVD/CD "Wandering", a collection of remixes and tour documentary of their last US tour. With "Wanderers" they took their sound to the next level using their infectious bass lines and minimal grooves, unleashing a hint of old skool flavor proving that the lads still have the Midas touch.
2008 started out with a bang with Antix being nominated and then placed runner up for the best In their game on the Beatport Music Awards. With no time to rest on their achievements, 2009 was a busy year of touring and working on the new album titled “Cavalier" (Iboga). The album ep's "Box of Birds", "The Hoard" and "Manta" set the bench mark for what was in-store.
More recently, the brothers have expanded their creative diversity with their new moniker "Out of Sorts" [Beat & Path, Kompakt Records, Heinz Music].
With OOS, Hayden and Barton dig even deeper into the realm of deep, ethereal techno and house… now with releases on German label Heinz Music, and local Beat & Path (of whom, alongside Uone, they are co-founders). In their own words:
“The studio being our second home is our creative playground which gives us the confidence to work outside the square. The sound on the Antix album tends to sway to the deeper emotional side with splashes of robotic funk and melancholic Indy dance. The Fiord releases of late are hypnotic dance-floor monsters, we love to pack a punch and give people a thrill, and the Out of Sorts releases have been a lot deeper and twisted. That’s the advantage of having so many projects, it allows us to evolve in many directions.”

It's easy to assume that Out Of Sorts came from Out Of Knowhere when their spirited first remix made its way into the hands of Kompakt Records, and gained attention from some of electronicas most seasoned captains. However, something about their productions tells you they didn't – a bold entity lurks within those modern grooves and nostalgic moods telling us we're not dealing with lucky amateurs.
Because we're not. In fact, Out Of Sorts was always there – the nickname for their imaginary friends from childhood who’ve acted as both muse and totem spirit for all of their creative projects since. And now, after huge international success under a different moniker, they have embraced these characters in the shadows to embody a sound that’s difficult to pigeonhole, leaving the past almost irrelevant – except that this is a duo who know how to bring it.
Which they are. From the pulsing underground to the most revered festivals on the global circuit, somewhere in the abyss you may hear something Out Of Sorts - a sound channeled by guardians that only they can see.
