  • Friday August 28th get ready to kick winter in the butt @ the Mercat w the TurnUp! Krew. Say goodbye to the cold with a dose of beats, house, electro & tech from djs Raki, Roy-L, Playtime Records hottest new signing - local gun Nick Verwey, The Cauc-asian Bitches, Nugget & dropper of mad bombs Lynchy and Dawookie. 10pm-late. How about these two characters - Roy-L & Raki.. Phat hip hop beats mixed up a treat with dirty fidget house! Lynchy and Dawookie - just like Burke and Wills, are back from walkabout in the Australian Outback ready to tear up the decks and dancefloor of the Mercat dungeon, throw Nugget in the mix and its gunna be a messy mix of house & tech jams! New to the TurnUp! Krew are The Cauc-asian Bitches. If you haven't seen these two then you've missed out on them rocking the roof off Seven Nightclub and Room 680 with their blend of house and electro. Make sure you get down and support the new signing to Playtime records Nick Verwey. Playtime Records is home to artists like Mike Monday, Yankee Zulu and Andre Crom. Nick Verwey is an Australian producer who, like Claude von Stroke, turned out his first few wonky tracks on surprisingly old-school technology - in CVS's case Reason, and in Nick's case Fruityloops. He started out making his own tracks to play out at a few Melbourne residencies, and his take on the brassy, funky and wonky sound - the oldschool vocal snippets, the horn section, the stumbling rhythm of Horn Rash? Playtime Recods have paired Nick with Belgian wonderkid Tom Dazing on remix duties, for Honey Dips. This is not music that will ever be Beatport-approved (TM), but it's as infectious as hell, as unserious and as serious as you like, and Tom's got the production chops to throw in everything but the kitchen sink - though in this case, he's thrown that in too, and a couple of them at that. This one is firmly in Playtime's tradition of "WTF?" remixing - a curveball as strange as the much-loved "bouncy bouncy" U&K remix of Mike Monday's Zum Zum. Horn Rash Ep out Monday August 24th.
