22a label founder, flautist, saxophonist, producer and DJ extraordinaire Ed Cawthorne - aka Tenderlonious - has gained a reputation as one of the hardest working, most well respected and influential figures in the UK jazz scene. Whether dropping sought-after jazzy house / broken beat 12”s on his own 22a imprint, or releasing via the likes of Ninja Tune, Brownswood, Yoruba, Sounds Of The Universe and Far Out, or making inspirational sounds with his band Ruby Rushton,
Tenderlonious is one of the jazz renaissance’s leading lights. The self taught musician has helped turn the UK music scene on its head and shifted the focus back from aesthetic and sartorial posturing to live, real musicianship - alongside other key piers like Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Henry Wu/Kamaal Williams and Shabaka Hutchings.
Tenderlonious’ credentials in both electronic and jazz worlds are impeccable. He already has a Solid Steel Radio mix, Mixmag lab session, monthly slot on Gilles Peterson’s WWFM and plenty of NTS shows under his belt, whilst his productions have gained praise and club plays from the likes of Bonobo, Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Lefto, Bradley Zero, Tom Ravenscroft, Huey Morgan, Osunlade, Alexander Nut, Mr G, Henry Wu and many more.
He has also performed as Tenderlonious or with his band Ruby Rushton at some of the worlds most respected venues and festivals including Ronnie Scotts, The Jazz Cafe, The Barbican, Koko, Pori Jazz Festival, Jazz RE:Freshed, Dimensions, Soundwave and many more.
