Deep Space presents a new monthly party, FUNKY SENSATION, featuring resident dj François K. with special guest Dj Spinna at club Output on Wed. 12/26. The party will re-establish François’ origins as a seminal producer of disco stemming back to his days at Studio 54 and Paradise Garage, showing deep connections between funk and disco. François, ever a forward-thinking groundbreaker will focus on raw, music energy, both new and iconic. Deep Space will land on earth periodically on special occasions.
François K. is revered as the co-creator of New York City’s legendary dance party Body&SOUL. He tours worldwide for not only his soulful house dj sets, but also for his techno and dub mixes. Over the years he performed regularly at Studio 54, Paradise Garage, The Loft, Ministry of Sound, Sound Factory Bar, Twilo, Roxy and Club Yellow in Japan. In great demand, François has gone into the studio to produce/remix recordings by Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Jimmy Cliff, Underworld, Eurythmics, Bunny Wailer, U2, Ashford & Simpson with Maya Angelou, the Smiths, Dido, Finley Quaye, Diana Ross, Cure, Mick Jagger, Fishbone, Talvin Singh, D Train, Erasure, Yazoo, Black Uhuru, Thomas Dolby, and Jah Wobble. François has been inducted twice into the Dance Music Hall of Fame for his work as a remixer and DJ.
Turning heads throughout the industry, Spinna’s sonics have infiltrated numerous genres, tapped by everyone from Mary J. Blige, to Motown Records for his brilliant Michael Jackson remix of “We’re Almost There." Spinna revived and revised jazz and soul marvels like Donald Byrd, Eddie Kendricks, Betty Carter, Roy Ayers and Al Jarreau. His most memorable remix goes to his monumental version of Shaun Escoffery’s “Days Like This," transforming it into a worldwide dance floor anthem, catapulting Spinna into his now stately touted presence in the soulful house music scene. These releases resulted in the signing to BBE records in 2002 where Spinna released his cult classic fulllength production LP “Here To There” which crossed multiple genres and garnered the attention of serious music fans worldwide.
A constant, globe trotter, Spinna has collaborated on stage alongside contemporary luminaries lGilles Peterson, Questlove, Jazzanova, Dimitri from Paris, Joe Claussell, Osunlade, Q-Tip, Jazzy Jeff, Kenny Dope, Keb Darge, DJ Scratch, DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist. Of all accomplishments, nothing compares to DJ Spinna’s celebrated Stevie Wonder inspired WONDER-Full DJ performances. The success of these events have led to several collaborations between Stevie Wonder and DJ Spinna including remixes for “My Love Is On Fire" and “Sweetest Somebody” from Stevie’s 2005 “A Time To Love” release. In addition, Dj Spinna continues to honor the legacy of MIchael Jackson with his own event “Forever Michael” on a global scale. In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s album BAD, Spike Lee produced the documentary BAD25 in which DJ Spinna appears.
