Golden Record x Frendzone // Jus-Ed, Akufen (Live) & Oshana

  • Jus-Ed Akufen (Live) Kellam Matthews Bad Room: Oshana Morgan For our next Golden Record, we are back at NYC’s most fun, underground club, ‪Good Room‬.  We have two killer lineups with some of house music’s finest in store for you. In the ‪Good Room‬ our good friend and House Music kingpin, Jus-Ed, will be playing an extended set following a live-set by legendary producer, ‪Akufen‬. Frendzone boss, ‪Good Room‬ fog-whisperer and Golden Record quasi-resident, Kellam Matthews, will be warming things up.  Returning to her hometown by way of Berlin, Oshana will be banging out an extended set in the Bad Room, following an extended opening-set by up-and-coming producer and seasoned DJ, Morgan. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We enjoyed Jus-Ed’s set so much a few months back that we had to have him play another Golden Record on his next return to the States. It’s difficult to find a DJ or producer of dance music, especially one from the Tri-State area, who doesn’t call Jus (real name Edward Mckeithen) an influence on their style. Founder of the prolific and celebrated label, Underground Quality, Ed has released works by Omar-S, ‪Nina Kraviz‬, Fred P, and DJ Qu, just to name a few. His sound, despite being house-based, is original and hard to pin down… the perfect fit for Golden Record. Ed is a true master; whether you caught him at Golden Record last time or not, if you like good music and you like our parties, you don't want to miss this one. Montreal-based, veteran producer and DJ, ‪Akufen‬ (real name Marc Leclair), was built to play live. His glitchy, euphoric house is spliced together like a patch work quilt. In pieces it can confuse some newcomers, but for those familiar, his style is a warm and inviting musical embrace. Sonically akin to ‪DJ Koze‬, ‪Akufen‬’s live set is sure to be filled with vocal surprises and left field dings all tied together with masterfully programed kick drums, steady cymbal patterns and an undercurrent of warm, melodic synths. His debut studio album, released in 2002, with over 2000 samples of radio feed on it, was named the 12th best album of the decade by Resident Advisor. Since then he’s had releases on Perlon, Background, Trapez, Haunt and his own Musique Risqué, as well as remixes for renowned artists ranging from Richie Hawtin to Massive Attack, among many others, all while being an integral contributor to the world-renowned Mutek festival series. Marc and his numerous projects have left an indelible mark on global-dance music and we are proud to present the New York debut of his live-set.  Drawing inspiration from the raw sound of late 90s house and techno, Oshana has composed a style that’s both fresh and mature, distinguished by its rugged percussion and warm, melodic synths. Her come up is tethered to her production skills and her high-energy LIVE shows. The New Yorker-via-Berlin artist made her breakthrough 7 years ago with tracks like Acid Disco and I See Through You and she hasn’t looked back since. Her more recent releases like Accelerator and Me En U on the esteemed French label, Yoyaku, have a more stripped back, bass-line driven, club-ready tone. Regardless of the setting, it is evident that energy is the primary factor permeating all aspects of Oshana’s creativity. The Bad Room may not be able to contain her.  “To the makers of music – all worlds, all times”.
