『ニューヨーク・クラブシーンのパイオニアが話題の新パーティを日本で開催』
伝説的なニューヨーク・ディスコシーンの初期から活動する重要DJのひとり、Francois Kevorkian。その活動は2019年になった現在も全く色褪せることがない。DJのパイオニアWalter Gibbonsのセットに合わせてドラムを演奏していた彼は、80年代に名門〈Prelude Records〉のプロデューサー/リミキサーを担当し、DJとしてParadise Garageの華々しい夜を幾度となく演出。90年代に入ってからはBody & SOULのレジデントを務め、進化を繰り返しながらダンスミュージック・カルチャーの第一線を走り続けてきた。
そのFrancois Kevorkianの、よりパーソナルな音楽性を表現する新パーティがFunky Sensationだ。今年始めに閉店となったブルックリンのクラブOutputでスタートしたこのパーティは、自身のルーツを巡る場所となっている。とりわけファンクやディスコに重点が置かれているものの、特定のジャンルに縛られることなく、彼がこれまでに培ってきた幅広い影響とスタイルを活かした新機軸が打ち出されている。
今回、日本で初開催となるFunky Sensationでは、Francois Kevorkianの深い経験とセンスを感じられる豊かなパーティミュージックを味わえるだろう。そう、それは、あらゆるサウンドを貪欲に取り込んできた真のミュージックマスターが創出する新たな音楽体験だ。

Francois Kevorkian is one of the few titans of New York’s legendary disco scene to still be active and wholly relevant in 2019. Starting out as a percussionist alongside pioneering DJ Walter Gibbons, Kevorkian went on to become in-house producer / remixer for the mighty Prelude Records in the ‘80s, DJ’d many times at Paradise Garage, was a resident at Body&SOUL in the ‘90s, and has continued to forge ahead at the forefront of dance music culture through its many iterations and evolutions.
Funky Sensation is Kevorkian’s personal stamp of quality – a respected party formerly held at Brooklyn club Output before it closed earlier this year. It’s the space in which he can explore the roots of his sound – funk and disco especially, but not bound to strict genre definitions and drawing on a broad range of influences and styles.
When he brings Funky Sensation to the Studio X Floor, you can expect to hear a rich variety of party music that nods to Kevorkian’s deep well of experience and taste – an omnivorous sonic experience sculpted by a true master.
