『DJ表現のさらなる可能性に挑む』
ミニマルテクノ/ハウスに対する明確なビジョンを持つ重要DJとして世界中で多忙な公演スケジュールをこなすFumiya Tanaka。そんな彼にとってホームといえるパーティが、20年以上開催しているCHAOSだ。最近では、ベルリンのミニマルシーンを象徴するレーベル〈Perlon〉からのリリースでFumiya Tanakaの名前を知る人が多いかもしれないが、そのイメージだけにとどまらない彼の音楽性がCHAOSでは体験することができる。フロアの反応、選曲、ミックスの相互作用から生まれるグルーヴの機微を鋭く掴み取り、大胆なトラックを見事なタイミングで投入するCHAOSでのセットは、ほかの場所で聴くことのできないものだ。
Cabanneは、こうしたCHAOSに適任のゲストと言えるだろう。パリを拠点にDJ/プロデューサー活動を行うCabanneもミニマルシーンに登場してから久しいが、4つ打ちのダンスミュージックに縛られないサウンドを積極的に取り入れている。ヒップホップの影響とサンプリング・カルチャーをハウスやその他のグルーヴに融合させた2016年のアルバム「Discopathy」を聞けば、そのことがわかるだろう。そのCabanneがCHAOSでFumiya Tanakaと共演する。ふたりの名工がどんなサウンドジャーニーを描くのか？ その道程は未知数だ。
Contactフロアには、Fumiya Tanakaのレーベル〈Sundance〉と〈Untitled〉から次々と作品を発表しているMikio Kaminakamuraが出演。今回のCHAOSも出演者全員が音楽的なつながりをしっかりと感じさせながら、ときに大胆なプレイでDJとしての個性を表現していく。

While his reputation as a prominent techno visionary keeps him busy all over the world, Fumiya Tanaka’s home turf is undoubtedly Chaos, the night he has run for the past two decades. While he may be best known for his minimal techno work, commonly affiliated with iconic Berlin stable Perlon, Chaos is a special event for Tanaka. The party gives him carte blanche to deviate from his more established sound and take creative risks without losing sight of the dancefloor – you’ll hear him play more adventurously at Chaos than anywhere else.
Cabanne is a natural fit for this premise – the Parisian DJ and producer is equally entrenched in the minimal scene, but has an affinity for sounds far beyond the confines of 4/4 dance music. His 2016 album Discopathy was a perfect example, fusing hip-hop and sample culture with house grooves and more besides. When he joins Tanaka on the Studio X Floor, there will be no telling where these two craftsmen end up on their musical journey.
Mikio Kaminakamura will be making an appearance on the Contact floor. He’s previously released music on Tanaka’s labels Sundance and Untitled, ensuring the whole night will have a sense of musical coherence no matter how far out the DJs venture.
