THAT THING in LIVERPOOL on 22nd March with...
ITOA/SIRR TMO/SAMURAI BREAKS/JUKE JOINT DJS
The 4th instalment of THAT THING sees 3 more Liverpool debuts and a total of 8 hours of premium underground club music.
Both Itoa and Samurai Breaks are absolutely killing it on the 160-170bpm bass music spectrum at the moment.
Sirr Tmo started out in the Chicago scene as a dancer then quickly started producing and later DJing.
Team GB and Dr. Mystery have been promoting the 160 sound in Manchester at their Juke Joint parties for the past year and we decided it was finally time they showed Liverpool that they're made of.
Full line up (in alphabetic order)...
ITOA - Exit Records, Samurai Records - Beat Machine Records
(https://soundcloud.com/itoa / https://www.mixcloud.com/Itoa / www.facebook.com/itoamusic)
No frills club music from London. Itoa is heavily influenced by the city's strong connection with Jamaican and soundsystem culture: dancehall and jungle inform the foundation of his music, but he also takes cues from footwork and juke. Reduction is the key part of the creative process that led to his signature sound; stripped back, percussive and weighty. Itoa gives every element in the track space to breath, with close attention given to
keep the sub bass the main driving force.
Recently appeared on DJ Madd’s Roots & Future, Bad Taste and Modern Ruin, Alex Godoy aka Itoa has being supported by artists and tastemakers such as Tim Parker (NTS Radio) and the 20/20 LND Crew. Watch out!
JUKE JOINT
The Juke Joint project began in Manchester last year when Dr Mystery & Team GB decided their city, and the world, needed more exposure to footwork & juke. When they DJ together each tries to compliment the other with dancefloor weight from the full span of the 160 scene - guaranteed to get your feet workin and body jukin!
SAMURAI BREAKS - The Dreamers, Halogen Music, Aufect Recordings, Forest Biz., Wonk@y Recordings, UK Jungle, Plush Recordings
(https://soundcloud.com/samuraibreaks / https://www.facebook.com/SamuraiBreaks)
Samurai Breaks bringing the heat to lively up the dance, fusing together high energy breaks, chopped vocals, wobbling basslines and turbo sass into a euphoric dancefloor explosion, dress to sweat because its going to get saucy.
Air play on Radio 1 and Noisia radio and a Rinse FM 100% production mix for Marcus Nasty
Founding member of Putting In Werk (Leeds) and a resident with Boombox Circus, Beatherder Festival and Eden Festival
SIRR TMO - Teklife, Hyperdub, Strictly Flava, TAR
(https://soundcloud.com/sirrtmo / https://twitter.com/SirrTmo / https://www.facebook.com/SirrTmo/)
Sirr Tmo is a 27 years old music producer / dj / contemporary footwork dancer hailing from the city of Chicago.
At 14 he was introduced to teen juke parties by his aunt and taught basic footwork/juke dances by another aunt. The teen events inspired Tmo to peruse the culture and dancing. The music inspired him and later he ended up meeting the DJs from the skating rinks and became a student of the sound.
Through dancing and DJing a yearning to learn the ins and outs of production developed and after mastering FL Studio he joined the Ghettotekz crew, who would later go on to become the now world famous TEKLIFE collective.
Tmo has taught the intricacies of the footwork moves all over North American and Europe, often dancing and DJing at the same events, he is a true student of the movement that is Chicago footwork.
