Bay Area mainstay HELIX moves north to Seattle for a one-time event featuring Australian progressive icon JAYTECH, a special birthday performance by HELIX co-founder and former Berlin-based progressive techno producer ANWALTER, featuring live hand-percussion by AMMO, fresh off his recent performance at Coachella. Support from Tokyo-based progressive and trance artist DEREK RYAN, the heart of San Francisco's progressive sound, RND(), and Helix co-founder and resident DJ LAHBUG. JAYTECH (Australia): Australian DJ / Producer Jaytech has been perfecting his craft for most of his life. James Cayzer (better known as Jaytech, or Jimbo to his friends) was 16 when he first experienced electronic music at a university rave party in Canberra, his hometown. Immediately inspired by what he heard, Jaytech began creating music using a simple computer set-up and his parents’ hi-fi speakers. His first worldwide vinyl release, “Music 101,” was played by DJs around the world, and ultimately BBC’s Radio 1.
Today, roughly 15 years later, Jaytech continues to inspire fans and contemporaries alike. Currently working on his fourth artist album, Jaytech is traveling the USA to seek inspiration and further develop his signature sound, while continuing to DJ in select cities allowing him to connect with his fans.
Jaytech’s musical empire reaches far beyond his accolades as a DJ and artist. Positronic, Jaytech’s first label and home to his third artist album “Awakening,” is a platform to promote up-and-coming artists and break them into the scene. Each month, tens of thousands of fans around the world listen to Jaytech’s long-standing radio show and podcast, one of the first ever mix show podcasts of its kind, and his new “Studio Talk” podcast is a platform where Jaytech interviews his contemporaries in the online music scene.
Over the course of his career, Jaytech has appeared at clubs and festivals in North and South America, Asia, Europe, and his homeland, Australia. His big break came in 2006 when Tiësto asked Jaytech to appear on the iconic “In Search of Sunrise” mix compilation series. Shortly thereafter, Jaytech was invited to play alongside British trance legends Above & Beyond at the Sunburn Festival in Goa, India. After making an impression on the Anjunabeats team, and he was invited to London to work in the Anjunabeats headquarters as a studio engineer.
With the release of his critically acclaimed debut album “Everything is OK,” Jaytech toured with Above & Beyond around the globe, appearing at every festival touchpoint imaginable: Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, Tomorrowland in Belgium, Electric Zoo in New York, as well as the Future Music Festival in Australia.
His mix work has earned him two #1 places on the iTunes US dance album chart with his Anjunadeep 02 and Anjunadeep 03 compilations, the latter of which he debuted during his live set at Trance Around The World 350, streamed live to a listen-in audience of 30 million from the Hollywood Palladium. His smash-hit trance collaboration “Code Red” with Finnish duo Super8 & Tab retained the #1 single on Beatport Trance for two weeks as he toured off the back of the release with the duo. His second artist album “Multiverse” is a time-honoured Anjunabeats favourite.
Jaytech is an international icon for progressive house music worldwide, but his best is yet to come. With his new album and subsequent tour in the works, as well as some exciting and innovative music on the horizon, Jaytech shows no signs of slowing down on his relentless dedication to his craft.
ANWALTER (Berlin/Seattle):
Anwalter is the latest project of Brian Wikner, a producer, DJ, and—perhaps most unconventionally—lawyer now residing in Seattle. Brian launched his Anwalter alias in 2013, concurrent with his relocation to Berlin and production focus on deeper techno grooves. During his time in Berlin, Brian developed his production skills, ultimately signing original tracks and remixes to labels including techno mainstay Octopus Recordings, Patent Skillz, Krypton Recordings, and Particles.
Prior to his time in Berlin, Brian co-founded and promoted the monthly HELIX Progression party at San Francisco's Ruby Skye nightclub, and regularly performed opening and closing sets for top international DJs, including ATB, Cosmic Gate, Mat Zo, Daniel Kandy, Ben Gold, and many more.
AMMO (Seattle):
The idea of live club drumming is pretty unusual. The idea of live club drumming as precise and exciting as AMMO is even more so. Having supported and toured the world with some of the most in-demand DJs (Justin Jay, Moon Boots, Doorly, Option4, Rob Garza, Gina Turner, Ekali aka Boize Noise), there’s good reason why AMMO is making a name for himself both among a rapidly growling fanbase as well as an ever-expanding A-list of collaborating DJs. He’s also proud to be LP’s only sponsored club artist, the biggest and most respected percussion company in the world.
Steeped in the house music scene since the mid 90s (as an accomplished former DJ himself), AMMO is as much a fan of the DJs and producers he supports as their fans themselves. Given his decades of experience behind and alongside the DJ booth, his pedigree puts him in the unique position of both respecting the DJs vibe, while knowing exactly how to enhance it – magnifying the crowd’s energy and connection with an always-memorable performance.
From funky house to hard, banging tribal, trance, and even drum’n’bass, AMMO has brilliantly augmented some of the worlds finest acts and venues (Coachella, Bonnaroo, EDC, Friendship, Holy Ship, Electric Forest, Ministry of Sound, Hangout Fest, etc.), producing a sonic and visual spectacle that blurs the line between club and concert – making for a truly unforgettable show.
DEREK RYAN (Tokyo):
Driving melodic beats - this is the common theme among Tokyo-based Derek Ryan’s signature blend of rolling house, thumping prog, and epic trance. A longtime veteran of the San Francisco and Tokyo club and rave scenes, Derek continues to push the boundaries of melodic dance music across the world, as both a highly rated producer and DJ, gracing the crates of top influencers and dance floors around the globe.
RND() (San Francisco):
A wild animal trapped in a shape-shifting maze of beats: the throb of melodic techno, the pulse of analog synth and undulations of early disco - this is the music of RND(). RND() is a project by San Francisco-based electronic music artist and veteran DJ/producer David Gropper and Tokyo-based guitarist/synth wizard Rob Palazuelos.
