Phrased (International Black & L.B Produce) will be on before live music starts. ........ Parasang is a weekly night of live improvisation led by Iranian sound artist, Pouya Ehsaei (Ariwo / Entr'acte / Zabte Sote) and curated by himself and MANANA//Records founder, Harry Follett. Each show is a one-off collaboration exploring the diversity of the city's musical communities through electronic music. Some of the past guests at Parasang include Ethiopian krar player Temesgen Zeleke, Afro-Cuban percussionists Hammadi Valdes, Rand Lester and Oreste Noda, Moroccan lute player Boujemaa Bouboul, jazz pianist Sarah Tandy, Shane Forbes, trumpeter Kevin Davy, James Mollison from Ezra Collective, Tim Doyle (Maisha/Cykada), dancehall/reggae drummer Marley Drummond, bassist Andrew Mclean, Aleh Ferreira (Banda Black Rio), Marcos Santana (Timbalada), Grim Artist 'Trim', electronic producer Henry Keen (Soundspecies/Electric Jalaba), Idris Rahman (Soothsayers), Maurizio Ravalico (Dele Sosimi/JK), Italian experimental vocalist, Maddelena Ghezzi, Bulgarian legend 'Morski' and Senegalese musicians Kadialy Kouyate & Ndene Ndialy. ........ MORE INFO ON TONIGHTS GUEST MUSICIANS: Byron Wallen Born of Belizean parents and raised in London, Byron’s international adventures into straight ahead and world jazz have taken his name and music afar, not only with four acclaimed albums (winning awards and nominations from the BBC and the MOBO Awards), but playing alongside legendary musicians such as Andrew Hill, Sam Rivers,Mulatu Astatke, George Benson, Red Snapper,Jack Dejohnette and King Sunny Ade. Jihye Kim Jihye Kim interprets her presence on stage as a “performer” and not a “percussionist”. Although she was originally trained for traditional drumming, her musical journey extends beyond – experimental, improvisational, contemporary, traditional and other genres not far removed from the main elements of Korean traditional music. She creates unique sounds inspired by wild nature and also blends electronic colours along with traditions. She received the Grand Prize at the KBS Korean Traditional Music Award as a member of the group ‘Ensemble Sinawi’ in 2012 and gained second Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology at SOAS, University of London in 2018. She is currently a leader of “Urban Sound” based in London, and a member of “SaaWee” based in New York and often collaborates with various visual artists, dancers, and other types of musicians around the world.
