Christina Vantzou, M. Geddes Gengras, JAB, Voice Training

  • Perfoming live on a quadrophonic sound system. DOORS at 8PM / $13 ADVANCE, $15 AT DOOR / BYOB Christina Vantzou is a Missouri native of Greek descent who resides in Brussels, Belgium. A composer & experimental filmmaker, she works with space, sound, and image on a level of curiosity and refinement. Over the course of fifteen years she has built an audiovisual language very much her own. Vantzou has composed and released four albums of ambient-classical music on Kranky and has developed a form of graphic musical notation influenced by abstract minimalists. Her many collaborations have included performing with Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse), co-founding The Dead Texan, creating abstract films for renowned musical artists, and performing with ensembles across 4 continents. She will be presenting multi-channel solo electronic work developed in part at GRM in Paris for the first time in the United State. M.Geddes Gengras has defined his practice with the art of synthesis. Starting with a string of short-run cassettes detailing the interior curvature of his well-worn vintage budget level Moogs & moving into the more diverse sonics of modular synthesis explored on recent releases like ISHI (Leaving Records/Stones Throw), Light Pipe (Room 40) and I Am The Last of That Green and Warm-Hued World (Hausu Mountain), the focus has remained, sculpting new sounds from raw voltage & creating engrossing sonic environments. In addition to two prolific solo careers (counting his dance-music alter-ego Personable), Gengras is an avid collaborator and has recorded and performed with The Congos, Akron/Family, Sun Araw & members of the Grateful Dead & Cold Sun. He is also the co-founder (with Sun Araw's C. Stallones) of Duppy Gun Productions, which pairs contemporary left-field producers with Jamaican vocalists to create new vision dancehall-influenced tracks. John Also Bennett in an American composer, flautist and synthesist based in Brooklyn, New York. His debut solo album, Erg Herbe, was released on the Shelter Press label in March of 2019. As well as composing and performing solo under his own name, he is a member of the trio Forma and founding member of the duo Seabat. He has collaborated with Jon Gibson, Christina Vantzou, American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), Peter Burr, Zin Taylor and many others, and performed at festivals internationally including Big Ears, Moogfest, Meakusma (Belgium), Jue (China), The World Minimal Music Festival (Amsterdam) and Nostros (Greece). His work as a composer for animation and short films has been screened at international film festivals including the Sundance Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, 25FPS International Experimental Film/Video Festival, London International Animation Festival and ESPTV. Jaclyn Miller works at the imaginary intersections of poetics, game theory, and sound synthesis. Recording under the moniker Voice Training, she has presented sound pieces at Issue Project Room, Bridget Donahue Gallery, Alyssa Davis Gallery, and Commend NYC.
