Defunct's Cosmic Grooves with Will Lister, Brother Nebula & Special Guest

  • To close a successful opening year, Defunct is proud to announce our final party of 2019. For this one, we’ll be taking you to the dark side of space and exposing you to deep, groovy interstellar beats - not one to miss! Taking a short hiatus from our beloved home under the arches, we’re excited to take you on a trip to a brand new DIY venue on Brick Lane - Werkhaus. As it’s our last party of the year, we’ve decided that we may as well go out with a bang. So it’s for that reason we’re excited to present to you our black hole of a lineup!! Extending a warm welcome to Phonica’s rising star Will Lister, Legwork’s infamous yet mysterious Brother Nebula and a super secret yet familiar Special Guest who returns after a debut set on his home planet, Stockholm! If our last 3 events are anything to go by, you guys are quite the party animals. So we decided to give you a bit more time to really settle in to this one….. Until 6am to be exact! That’s right, Werkhaus will be open until 6am for this event, so lock in and party on - stay long enough and you can catch the tube home in the morning x THE ARTISTS: Will Lister: Phonica Records were right to recognise the talent as they released Will Lister’s debut Phantom EP at the age of 18. Since the release, Will has gone from strength to strength putting out EPs on both Joy in Repetition and ANMA Records, whilst helping contribute to compilations from the Peckham based labels Rhythm Section and YAM Records. His most recent release with Trinidadian Deep gained support from the likes of Bonobo, Josey Rebelle, Alexander Nut, and other tastemakers in the electronic music scene. Hovering in a space somewhere between house and electronic music, with influences from hip-hop and jazz as well as the heavier side, his productions retain a signature style, whilst he showcases his DJ aptitude with his bimonthly show on the international Balamii Radio. Behind the decks Will has the ability to hold a dance floor effortlessly using his deeper knowledge of the heavier cuts. This reflects his passion to delve into a production style with a darker atmospheric soundscape, whilst retaining his signature synth and broken percussion. Brother Nebula: After intermittent radio transmissions, contact has not only been made, but a shadowy figure that goes by the name of Brother Nebula has agreed to take the helm on this evening, to guide the collective consciousness towards unknown depths of the galaxy. With several releases on the renowned Legwork records, gigs at Glastonbury, Field Maneuvers and the legendary Berghain, we need say no more about the credentials of this extraterrestrial being. Special Guest: Joining them is our mysterious special guest. Hailing from Sweden, this infamous party starter has several acclaimed releases to his name and is frequently found looking for trouble in cities around the world. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE VENUE Werkhaus, located in the Truman Brewery complex on Brick Lane, is a 300-capacity venue outfitted with a Funktion-One soundsystem boasting a 6am license. “London’s music scene has gone back to its roots, and we wanted to create space for the innovative, boundary-pushing artists who represent the fabric of what’s emerging. It’s a high-spec, industrial space championing live, club and art-focused events from today’s thriving subculture communities.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As always the Defunct residents will be warming up the floor from 10pm, and this time closing the party as well (did we mention we have a 6am license?) Don’t forget your space suits. The Defunct Crew X
