『NYブルックリンの最前線レイヴパーティSustain-Releaseのサテライトイベントが東京で開催』
この閉塞的な世の中で、NYと東京、2つの都市を結ぶアンダーグラウンド・シーンのつながりを重視し、東京でいま新たなダンスパーティを体験できるエクスチェンジ企画。2014年にスタートしたSustain-Release (サステイン・リリース) は、NYの北部アップステートのキャンプ場を舞台に、ブルックリンのローカルDJがラインナップされたNYで唯一無二のレイヴパーティ。毎年ゲストには、ヨーロッパを中心にインターナショナルに活躍するDVS1、DJ Stingrey、DJ Sprinkles、Lena Willikens、Kassem Mosse、Legowelt、Josey Rebelle、Courtesy、Batu、Jane Fitz、そして日本勢からはDJ Nobu、Wata Igarashi、Powder、Chris SSGといったアーティストをSustain-Releaseならではの審美眼でセレクトしてきた。オーガナイザーは、ブルックリンを拠点に世界で活躍するDJ/プロデューサーのAurora Halal。今年で7年目を迎えるSustain-Releaseは、RAの「月間 Festivals Top 10」で4年連続1位を獲得
するほど高く評価されている。さらに、暴力や差別/不快な行為を一切禁止し、オーディエンスとともに作り上げるセーフティな空間も人気の理由なのだろう。その環境を守るがゆえに、パーティへの参加は完全招待制、チケットは1000人限定という制限を設けながらも発売と同時に秒殺でソールドアウトする、スペシャルなレイヴができあがった。
“S-R Meets Tokyo”のメインフロア、オープニングにはSustain-Releaseに2度の出演を果たし、〈Midgar〉、DJ Nobuの〈Bitta〉、NYの名門テクノレーベル〈The Bunker New York〉からリリースがあるWata Igarashiが持ち味のグルーヴィなサイケデリックテクノによってディープな世界観を繰り広げる。そして、「200% GALCHER」〈Lustwerk Music〉や名門〈Ghostly International〉からのアルバム「Information」をリリースしたばかりの絶好のタイミングで来日するGalcher Lustwerkが、自身のヴォーカルと特有のサウンドをシンクロさせたDJセットを披露。クロージングにはSustain-ReleaseをオーガナイズするAurora Halalがパーティを堂々と締めくくる。
Contactフロアでは、ディープ・レゲトンというオリジナルのスタイルを生み出しDekmantelの出演やリリースが絶好調のDJ Pythonが、予想だにできないユニークなプレイをクロージングに披露する。さらに、〈Incienso〉からのリリースが注目を集める初来日の新星Beta Libraeがトリッピーでグルーヴィなテクノを展開。そして、日本各所のパーティに出演するAKIRAM ENが先鋭的なレフトフィールド・テクノでダンスフロアを沸かし、オープンニングには今年のSustain-ReleaseにDJ出演を果すだけでなく自身が運営するレーベルでも鋭いキュレーションセンスを発揮するJR Chaparroが担当。
Foyerフロアでは日本のクラブシーンから絶大な信頼を集め、国外へと活動の場を広げているDJ陣をラインナップ。まずは、NYでも有数のクラブJupiter Discoや上海ALL、Boiler Room等へ出演するほか、攻めのセットを追求し勢い止まらないパーティKRUEも主宰するMari Sakurai。そして、LA〈Motion Ward〉からのリリースが記憶に新しく、アメリカ全土に名を広める新興アンビエント/レフトフィールド・レーベルクルーC minusの一員であるUltrafog。日本を中心にアジアでも毎週のようにDJプレイするCYKクルーから、ジャンルレスな選曲で常にフロアを盛り上げるKotsu。UKブリストルサウンドを深く追求し、自身のパーティ解体新書にそれらの関連アーティストを召喚、DJやオーガナイザーとしてその才能を発揮する一方でクラブ系インターメディアHigherFrequencyの編集長という一面も持つRomy Mats。オープニングアクトには、エクスペリメンタルやアヴァンギャルドを織り交ぜ、決して一筋縄ではいかないクセのあるサウンドが聴く人を惹きつけるCelterが務める。

Launched in 2014 and held every year at an upstate camping site in woods, Sustain-Release is New York’s leading rave organized by Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Aurora Halal which has an immersive artistic environment and a playful experimental sound. In addition to Brooklyn DJs injecting local flavor, their on-point curation has brought international guests like DVS1, DJ Stingray, DJ Sprinkles, Lena Willikens, Kassem Mosse, Legowelt, Josey Rebelle, Courtesy, Batu and Jane Fitz, as well as Japanese artists such as DJ Nobu, Wata Igarashi, Powder and Chris SSG. Celebrating their 7th anniversary this year, Sustain-Release has been ranked the best festival of the month by Resident Advisor for four years in a row. The festival’s strict policy rejecting all forms of violence and discrimination is also part of the reason for their success. In order to protect this safe environment, the festival is invite-only and is capped at 1,000 tickets, which all sell out in seconds.
To start, the main floor will be plunged into a world of deep, groovy psychedelic techno by two-time Sustain-Release performer and producer Wata Igarashi, whose affiliations include Midgar, DJ Nobu’s Bitta as well as techno label The Bunker New York. On the heels of his new album “Information” from Ghostly International, Galcher Lustwerk will follow with a DJ set synchronizing his vocals and original sounds. Closing out the night is Sustain-Release mastermind Aurora Halal.
On the Contact Floor, “deep reggaeton” pioneer DJ Python will close out the night with his playful style that defies all expectations. Incienso alum and rising star Beta Librae will make her Japan debut with a tripped out, groovy techno set. In the earlier hours, Akiram En will deliver left-field techno to the dance floor and Sustain-Release guest and label-owner JR Chaparro will kick off the night.
The Foyer zone will feature popular Japanese DJs who have been making an international mark in recent years. The first name in the lineup is Mari Sakurai, DJ and founder of popular high-energy party KRUE. Ambient producer Ultrafog whose record from Motion Ward is still fresh on our minds will represent US collective C minus. Additional names include Kotsu from Tokyo’s CYK collective and DJ, promoter and Bristol sound aficionado Romy Mats who are fixtures in the Tokyo club scene. Celter will open the night with experimental and avantgarde sounds that escape easy explanation.
