사우스 런던 출신의 천재. 디지털 댄스홀의 영웅 Jahtari 레이블에서 충격적인 데뷔를 장식한 아티스트로, 카세트 테이프를 연주/녹음 장비로 사용하여 소리를 열화시켜 비정상적인 상태의 연주 방법을 통해 획일화 되어 있는 댄스홀/레게 씬에 새로움을 몰고 왔다. 잘 알려져 있듯, 그는 전자음악 트렌드에서 뛰어난 균형 감각을 가지고 2015년 이후에는 Rezzett의 맴버로 활약해 왔다. 한편으로는 Tapes로서 활동을 모색하기 시작하여 우여곡절을 겪고난 뒤 7FO와 함께한 라이브 앨범 ‘전기폭발/電氣爆発(2019)’를 발표했다. 2020년에는 만반의 준비를 통해 새로운 솔로 싱글 ‘Summer Jam’을 발표하였다.
Originally Hailing from South London, Tapes made his debut release on esteemed 8-bit digital reggae label Jahtari in 2009 with his “Hissing Theatricals” EP. Soon after, a spate of releases and appearances continued on labels such as Honest Jon’s, Sextags, Astro dynamics and Meeuw Musak until finally releasing the first full album “No Broken Hearts on This Factory Floor” in 2015 on the Osaka based label EM Records. More recently the multidisciplinary ferric fanatic has been working behind the scenes as a producer, lending his talents to the likes of reissue label: Music from Memory (Caliban “Digital Reggae”) and the Estonian label Porridge Bullet with who’m he worked with on the Super Star and Star releases. In 2018 Tapes continued to branch away into new realms of sonic exploration, soundtracking the short film “The Clothes Themselves” inspired by the concepts of roboticist turned philosopher Riccardo Manzotti and releasing “Silence Please”: a 4 part composition for Tanpura box, Tabla machine and flute synthesiser on “Good Morning Tapes”. His most recent release is a collaborative excursion with Osaka based musician 7F0: “Live – 電氣爆発 (Electronic Aura Explosion)” is a showcase for the pairs coming live shows and includes performed tapes riddims soothingly guided by 7F0’s lushful guitar playing. Mixing up dub methods, library music, traditional electronic Indian instruments and all sounds hissing on psychedelics, Tapes has performed a variety live shows and DJ sets shows across the world. 2020 will see Tapes return to the stage alongside both new friends and old, continuing to explore his fascination with with arcane recording aesthetics and vintage digital alike!

2010년부터 오사카를 기반으로 활동해온 전자 음악가. 기타, 신디사이저 및 샘플러를 사용하여 앰비언트, 덥, 사이키델릭 사운드 및 전자 음악의 영향을 받아 자신의 음악을 만들고 있다. 2016년, 뉴욕의 RVNG Intl 산하 레이블에서 카세트를 발표한 후, Bokeh Versions 등 해외 레이블들의 의뢰로 작품을 발표하고 해외 아티스트들에게도 끊이지 않는 러브콜을 받는 드문 존재. 2018년, EM RECORDS에서 앨범 '용의 허물 /竜のぬけがら'을 발표, 2019년, Meakusma Festival에 Tapes와 성공적으로 공연을 마쳤다. 스튜디오 아티스트라고 생각될 수 있지만, 훌륭한 라이브로 정평이 나 있다.
Electronic music artist. Having been influenced by ambient, dub, psychedelic sounds and other forms of electronic music, he began his own production in 2010. 7FO produces and perform his music live using guitar, synthesizers and samplers. After released a few works on Japanese labels and involved in environmental and sound effects productions, he made his debut on Commend See series from RVNG Intl, followed by more outputs on international labels such as Bokeh Versions and Metron.
