Silver Waves resurrects old birds Howling Owl to peel an Easter bludgeoning oh yes oh yes.
The inaugural SXHWXO night sees Silver Waves teasing new work in the Crofters' main room amongst a carefully curated lineup of sonic adventurers. First up, we can announce Aircode and Viridian Ensemble.
Swedish producer Aircode works with sounds extracted from various corners of the electronic experimental field. Using manipulated phone recordings, melodies of its own logic and unexpected rhythms, creating a challenging, melancholic and ever changing sound. Her debut EP ‘dislocated’ was released summer 2019 on TT (fka Tobago Tracks).
Elvin Brandhi is an improvising lyricist, producer and sound artist from Bridgend, Wales, who builds aberrant beats from field recordings, tape, vinyl, instrument and voice. Using sound and voice as an expansive language transgressing intrinsic systemics and inherited syntactical etiquettes, her live shows are unyielding bursts of erupting animation where her caustic stream of consciousness cavorts with restless, glitched out heaviness.
O$VMV$M is a duo made up of Dj Neek & Amos Childs (of Jabu), together they make sample based music woven together from B-movie horror films, old jungle/hardcore tapes and found/recorded sound. Heavily inspired by dub and its process of subtraction they often work backwards and strip away and warp elements until the original source material is barely recognisable. They have also worked with various vocalists and artists including Rider Shafique, Franco Franco, and producing Manonmars' latest album on Young Echo Records.
Silver Waves are the exhilarating currents emanating from Dylan Mallett when he gets busy with his soundboard. Initially established through a desire to experiment freely with sound and narrative, the project has since grown to encompass a weapons-grade electronic music powerhouse which contorts genre limitations and club structure into emotionally charged, twisting productions that defy expectation. Swiftly following up a sold out comeback show at The Island and recent releases on Berlin label Portals Editions and Bristol's own Illegal Data.
Viridian Ensemble is an ethereal blend of image and noise, which re-imagines folkloric forms and tropes of femininity. Improvisation of both sound and image (digital & analogue) produce a dialogic blend of textural depths. Dissociative states, keening, and the supernatural inspirit the ensemble. For this performance Viridian Ensemble's current iteration of Dali De Saint Paul (Vocals), Tina Hitchen (Flute), Caitlin Alais Callahan (Double Bass), Esme Betamax (Percussion) and Laura Philips (16mm films & sound responsive digital projections, waterphone) will be joined by extra special guests Sarah James (Visuals) & Orryx (Guitar).
