  • Lightning strikes in Oberschöneweide: As part of the Month of Contemporary Music, organized every September by the Initiative Neue Musik Berlin, the Marc Sinan Company is opening its new venue, the SPREEHALLE BERLIN. Its inaugural event will be the launch of the concert series ELEKTROPOLIS, featuring the premiere of a new piece by musician and DJ Paul Frick as well as a performance of Steve Reich's ELECTRIC COUNTERPOINT by guitarist Marc Sinan. The SPREEHALLE will flip the switch on its custom-designed 32-channel, 360°-soundsystem, the TRANSFORMATOR, for the premiere of FRICKIN by Paul Frick. The classically trained musician is active in the field of electronic music, also known as one-third of Brandt Brauer Frick (!K7, Because Music) and since 2018 a member of the seminal krautrock band Tangerine Dream. Whether solo or in a group setting, Frick displays a skill for weaving together techno sounds and traditional instruments – first and foremost in a live setting, tonight joined by woodwind performer Oğuz Büyükberber and percussionist Daniel Eichholz. Furthermore, Susanne Fröhlich, one of the most sought-after flutists in the field of new music, who also presents her own work. To round out the program, Marc Sinan (ECM Records) will perform ELECTRIC COUNTERPOINT, a minimalist milestone from 1987. Steve Reich originally wrote the piece for Pat Metheny, conceived as a performance in which a solo guitarist plays along to a pre-recorded overdub of ten guitars and two bass guitars. Mirko Borscht, a renowned film and theatre maker, will provide immersive visuals. Due to the Corona pandemic, we ask for binding registration via [email protected]. Tickets are available at the door for 10€ (reduced: 8€).
