The four-day ambient festival "Civilization of Love" will take place for the 13th time in 2021 and celebrate the 1000-year anniversary of the Basilica of St. Aposteln with the motto ANNUM PER ANNUM. More than 30 renowned artists and ensembles of contemporary electronic and classical music are invited to the festive program in the Romanesque church in Cologne. In addition to HAUSCHKA, SVEN HELBIG and ROGER ENO, the brother of Brian Eno, this year's program features more women like SARAH DAVACHI and the festival program includes three large commissioned compositions. ALVIN LUCIER, PHILLIP SCHULZE and MARCUS SCHMICKLER compose new works and installations for the special occasion. The internationally renowned video artists HARTUNG & TRENZ have developed the light installation ZEIT RAUM / 16:40, which uses words and letters from the history of the church space. On the last day of the festival, the 1st Cologne Ambient Mass with pianist LUBOMYR MELNYK and music performer FRANCESCO CAVALIERE will be celebrated by Pastor Christoph Biskupek. A free service will be held during the day at our neighboring church, St. Michael: NEXT GENERATION OF AMBIENT with talk concerts and performances by young, exciting up-and-coming talents from Ambient and Modern Classical Music - as a new festival format towards the future.
