His late entrance into post-peak minimal forced his own evolution, and his catalogue deeply reflects this, shifting to fuller house and techno sounds by the mid-2010s on classic labels like Cocoon, Ovum, and Kompakt. Meanwhile on his own Variance and Delft imprints, he kept pace with the artier end of techno, debuted his acid/electro/techno La-4a project, and dropped killer early efforts from now-established artists like Mor Elian, Matrixxman, Physical Therapy, and more. Always with a keen eye on the times and emerging shifts in sounds, Ambivalent remains a distinctive voice and tastemaker in underground techno. A storied Pittsburgh techno head whose mid-2000s Humanaut events led directly into the legendary Hot Mass party, where he was a founding member, *Paul Fleetwood* has a long history kickstarting one of the Midwest’s most important, thriving local scenes. While Hot Mass needs no introduction, Fleetwood himself cuts closer to the deeper, harder techno sounds of the Midwest, which continues as his main focus both within the crew and since his shift to Denver in 2019. Launching his own Perimeter Junk label in 2021, Fleetwood remains best at one of the best things anyone can ask for: deeply experienced and driving techno sets born of over a decade’s work in the deep Midwest. A resident of Distrikt1 at Bossa Nova, *Lychee* is well respected in Brooklyn for their heady, ambient take on techno and forays into harder sounds, making frequent appearances at clubs & events most noted for deeper techno like Merge, Locked Groove, Nowadays, and others. Their Spontaneous Affinity interview/mix/event series focuses mainly on emerging talent worldwide, with monthly mixes and interviews, an annual zine, and occasional events. Always explorative and with a firm grasp on techno past, present, and future, Lychee invites listeners to revel in communality of dancefloor experience in each set.
