In classic Madam X style, the Greek-British artist marks the 7th year of Kaizen Klub and her actual birthday by throwing a big sweaty rave in East London. Selecting a range of transcendental DJs and producers to soundtrack Werkhaus, the party will celebrate the evolution of her label and shine a light on the names shaping the sound of leftfield bass, breaks, dubstep, world and general wub-wub vibes.
Having launched Kaizen in 2014, Madam X has shared her genre-bending sets throughout Europe, South East Asia, the UK, the US and the airwaves of NTS and Athens' Movement Radio. Penned as the 'linchpin of UK dance music innovation' by Mixmag, the seminal Scratcha DVA joins Madam X for a one-off B2B session. Together, the pair will unleash their combined cuts of leftfield bass and UK gqom to honour the authentic sound of Kaizen.
Ploy joins the party to inject a dose of Big South London Energy into Brick lane. The Deaf Test label boss is one of the most captivating talents to breakthrough in recent years. Having released on BRSTL and Not So Much under his former alias 'Samuel,' the back catalogue of Ploy lists records on Hessle Audio, Timedance, and most recently, Deaf Test with his sold-out EP 'Rayhana.' Expect chuggers flecked with baile funk, broken beats and tribal percussion.
Kaizen, Hyperdub and Ilian Tape affiliate Walton comes through, having just announced his album on AD93s sub-label, Lith Dona. A bonafide selector, producer and sample-pack-creator extraordinaire, Walton is the kind of DJ who jumps from dubstep to 140 BPM techno with wild abandon and delivers with precision.
London-based DJ and producer Hazel Marimba completes the bill. Although she's a lover of jazz and blues, Hazel is known for her fierce, percussive-flavoured bass. Rave caves like Rye Wax and iconic clubs like fabric have cropped up in her diary, and looking to the year ahead, Hazel's only going one way, and that way is up.
