  • TM8. edu #3 takes place at RA HQ on Thursday 5th May, during Mental Health Month. We’ll be focusing on well-being and how to navigate the rollercoaster of being an artist in 2022. While the taboo of speaking about mental health has lessened in recent years, illnesses like addiction, anxiety and depression remain prevalent in the music biz. We’ll be talking about sobriety, performance anxiety, imposter syndrome, burn-out, jealousy and all the other ups and downs that, unfortunately, tend to go hand-in-hand when working in creative industries. Entry is free, but space is limited. Secure your ticket. Big-ups to RA for funding our TM8.edu series. ___ ++ Meet the TM8.EDU #3 panellists ++ Babetheory [MISERY] babetheory is an artist, educator, cultural producer, club kid raver and co-creator of MISERY — a mental health community and sober party for queer, trans, intersex, black indigenous and people of colour. The core values of MISERY include harm reduction, healing justice, providing accessible sober spaces and cultivating community care. Starting out as an LGBTQ youth worker, Babetheory currently collaborates with TIBIPOC artists and collectives to look at ways to redistribute wealth and resources to sustain grassroots queer, disabled-led and BIPOC platforms. As “a mad capri-sun in recovery” they dream about a world where we do things differently. A place to play freely, be with each other and express ourselves without hesitation. They’re often plotting and scheming sustainable ways to make this magic happen. __ Sophia Kearney [HE.SHE.THEY, The Weird & The Wonderful] Sophia Kearney is the co-founder of the event series and fashion house HE.SHE.THEY. With over ten years working in the music industry as an artist agent and manager, Sophia holds a wealth of knowledge in all things music and the arts. She is also the co-CEO of The Weird & The Wonderful, where she manages artists including Maya Jane Coles, SYREETA, Wax Wings and more. Alongside co-founder Steven Braines, her work for HE.SHE.THEY spans cultivating brave spaces and ideas to live in a world without prejudice. The platform hosts festival stages at club nights around the world, counting fabric in London and Pacha in Ibiza amongst other spots. Sophia has seen it all in music — the highs, the lows and the colourful chaos of the music biz. _ Niamh [NYXXX] Niamh O’Connor is a music journalist, DJ and founder of the editorial and events platform NYXXX. She started out DJing in Dublin nine years ago before working as a booker in London-based clubs Egg, E1, Orange Yard, and with the MOTZ collective, where she learned the ropes in running events. Today, she is a freelance writer for DJ Mag, Resident Advisor, Home of Sound, Beatportal and a contributor here on Technomate. Having spent the last few months travelling, she uses NYXXX as a platform to interview artists she’s met along the way and share an insight into worldwide dance music culture. Niamh’s worked almost every conceivable job in the industry, from artist liaison to managing contracts for venues and promoters in the UK. Both the glam and the banal — you name it, she’s done it.
