  • Lynyn (Lexicon Album Release Show) lynyn is the moniker of Chicago electronic artist Conor Mackey, a working symphonic composer who has scored for institutions including the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, and member of the Chicago jazz-fusion quintet Monobody. Mackey first introduced his electronic alias lynyn as executive producer of Chicago artist NNAMDÏ’s Are You Happy EP in the Fall of 2021. Pitchfork described his production on that project as “a novel intersection of IDM” and contemporary pop. Lynyn now offers up his debut electronic LP lexicon via Chicago label Sooper Records (7/15/22). “As a composer, Mackey is familiar with the challenge of wrangling tons of instruments and performers into one single piece of music,” said online music platform BLEEP, continuing, “On lexicon, he instead turns to his electronics, employing musical nanobots to orchestrate ethereal microchip symphonies.” DJ MAG said that “lexicon… [is] likely to set him apart as one of IDM’s next visionaries,” and CHICAGO TRIBUNE said “lexicon is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and innovative records of the year.” Lexicon comes paired with a breathtaking visual universe made by Chicago digital artist Owen Blodgett. Over the past two decades, producer / composer / multi-instrumentalist Angel Marcloid has willed a vast ecosystem of music into existence at a rate that somehow seems to intensify as time goes on. Various solo monikers, collaborations, and band memberships stand as monuments in the landscape, focusing in on certain styles associated with each project — the Weather Channel jazz fusion / new age of Nonlocal Forecast, or the hazy vapor nostalgia of Mindspring Memories, to give a few of many examples. The music of Marcloid’s flagship project Fire-Toolz sits as the bottomless pit in the center of the lush environment, drawing ideas and signifiers from all corners into its depths. In keeping with Fire-Toolz’s role as the outlet for Marcloid’s most overloaded and audacious compositional gambits, Eternal Home enters the catalog as the longest and most ambitious Fire-Toolz album to date. Clocking in at close to 80 minutes, Marcloid improbably maintains the attention to detail and the crushing density that has come to define Fire-Toolz from its inception, treating the expanded canvas as an opportunity to both dive deeper into genre-obliterating chaos and to tighten the reins around more direct, even accessible styles of songwriting. Warm Human is a Chicago-based, Oakland-raised sludge pop project from Meredith Johnston. Mixing ambient textures and synth-pop aesthetics, Warm Human drags her depression to the forefront as a one-woman chamber choir of devastation.
