  • The release of Penelope Three in 2021 marked the final instalment of Penelope Trappes’ quietly mesmerising and critically acclaimed trilogy. Penelope is a UK based Australian born vocalist, musician and etherial soundscaper who spent 2016 writing and recording what would become ‘Penelope One’ in a small piano studio in East London. Composed of mostly percussionless, reverb-heavy, haunting atmospherics with dystopian themes, the LP was released via Optimo Music in 2017. Penelope signed to the stellar Houndstooth label and released her sophomore LP ‘Penelope Two’ in 2018, a minimalist, ethereal album built around field recordings, meditations, guitars, piano and reverb, which deals with mortality, predestination and empathy. 2019 saw the release of ‘Penelope Redeux’ consisting of reworks of songs from ‘Penelope Two’ by uncompromising artists, including Cosey Fanni Tutti, Mogwai, Félicia Atkinson and Nik Colk Void. The 'Eel Drip' EP was released in 2020 and ‘Penelope Three’, the final epigenetic-themed instalment of the trilogy, was released in May 2021 with a long string of UK tourdates, culminating in a live performance with the London Contemporary Orchestra at London’s Sounthbank Centre. 'Mother’s Blood', a vocal-free meditative reinterpretation of 'Penelope Three' was released on cassette at the end of that year. “Summoning the great ghosts of vintage 4AD and Kranky, the Australian singer and producer makes inky dream pop that’s as heavy and welcoming as a weighted blanket.” - Philip Sherburne (Pitchfork) https://penelopetrappes.bandcamp.com ----------------- samwooddoowmas is a musician and visual artist based in Edinburgh. He records out of a DIY studio held together with electrical tape. He makes sounds using a variety of techniques including tape loops, digital processing and analogue instrumentation. He is known for performing in unusual spaces (such as a urinal) and playing unusual instruments live, such as a bass guitar played by a bicycle. http://www.samwooddoowmas.com ----------------- Edinburgh-based musician Steven Shade, best known for his solo work as Sevendeaths and previously as a member of Scottish bands American Men, Eunoia and G-Plan, brings his new modular synth work Imaginal Discs to Wavetable. As Sevendeaths, Shade has released several records on LuckyMe, garnering the attention of the US music press, receiving Pitchfork’s ‘Best New Music’ and Spin Magazine’s ‘electronic tracks of the week’. His debut album ‘Concrete Misery’, created with a midi guitar and digital FX chains, melded doom, shoegaze, and minimalism into arpeggio laced experimental drone and was included in A Closer Listen’s recent retrospective ‘Best drone albums of the decade’ list. Double LP ‘Remote Sympathy’ followed which added acoustic instruments and spectral synthesis techniques, whilst the looser ‘FT4C’ EP utilised modular synths to create bleak, glitchy ambient. Positive reviews and features came from publications including The Wire, Self-Titled and Crack whilst tracks received airplay on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music and numerous respected artist mixes and DJ sets. Sevendeaths played a select number of shows alongside seminal artists such as Tim Hecker, Autechre and Blanck Mass and also provided remixes for Cashmere Cat and Ben Chatwin. Shade has also performed with writer and scholar Timothy J. Jarvis as the experimental generative improv duo 'When Cut, the Present You Leaks Out Into The Future'. For those performances Shade used his modular system to process Tim’s cut up readings in real time, twisting his eerie tales into a live dark ambient soundtrack. For this new work, Shade will use a small modular system to process ambient samples driven along by Euclidean drum rhythms and propulsive synth sequences. https://sevendeaths.bandcamp.com https://linktr.ee/sevendeaths
