On Friday 11th November we are absolutely delighted to be welcoming one of the music industry’s leading figureheads to FØRGE.
Gilles Peterson, a revered DJ, obsessive record collector and a true champion of the underground music community, will be returning to Sheffield for his first set here since 2019 and we couldn’t be more excited. Throughout his seminal career spanning over three decades, he’s tirelessly promoted new frontiers of jazz, hip-hop, electonic music and beyond, giving various forward-thinking movements the platform to gain traction from a wider audience. Gilles, a true broadcasting legend and iconic DJ will be joined by his good friend and frequent collaborator, MC Earl Zinger. The brainchild of Rob Gallagher, formerly of UK band Galliano, Earl Zinger is a fictional alias that has gained a large following after releasing a series of 7” records through the Red Egyptian imprint, which were received to critical acclaim. Spanning the genres of acid jazz, electronic and hip-hop, you can expect an amazing, eclectic selection of music from around the world.
On closing duties is one of Sheffield's most prominent dance music pioneers, Winston Hazel. Having cemented his status in the dance music scene as a member of electronic music group Forgemasters, who were responsible for the first-ever release on the iconic Sheffield label Warp Records, as well a string of amazing solo records across a number of highly influential Sheffield-based imprints.
Completing the lineup, Ashley Grimshaw will be opening the night with his unique and one-of-a-kind jazz selections. A regular on the Sheffield circuit, Ashley’s excursions into DJing have seen him working his magic and blowing people’s socks of at the best parties around the city.
