When the Young Fathers returned in the summer with their single "Geronimo", the first release since the great album "Cocoa Sugar" from 2018 crystallized again what a special band is the trio from Edinburgh. Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole and G. Hastings slowly pulled us back into their sonic cosmos with this song. With a calm clacking beat and dark synths that slowly get louder by the deep murmured vocals.
At this point you can clearly hear that touring together with Massive Attack has left its mark. But then comes the chorus, a high voice singing the name "Geronimo" and shortly after the already irresistible song rises with a soulful force and you think: this is how you announce yourself back as a band! The Young Fathers themselves say that "Geronimo" is "a song about contrasts, because life is a contrast - asserting yourself, giving up, everything at the same time.
More new music will be released via Ninja Tunes in the near future - and expectations are high after the last two albums "Cocoa Sugar" and "White Men Are Black Men Too". They were celebrated by critics and fans alike. You have still to see this trio live and you'll have a chance to do in the spring of next year.
