technowruz returns for its fifth New Year celebration, with music, food, DIY crafts and installations including a traditional Haftsin (هفتسین). This year we are also honoring the ongoing Women, Life, Freedom revolution in Iran, and other intersectional resistance movements, with a people’s library of political essays and zines. The night begins with a traditional Iranian Kamanche performance from master singer and instrumentalist Mehrnam Rastegari, followed by DJ sets and dancing into the early hours.
A 3,000-year-old New Year tradition rooted in Zoroastrianism, Nowruz is celebrated on the spring equinox and ushers in a season of rebirth. It is celebrated by over 300 million people worldwide, including in Afghanistan, Iran, Kurdistan, Turkmenistan, and beyond. Often in defiance of state proscription, observance of Nowruz is an expression of hope and renewal after a long, dark winter.
Doors open at 7pm / performance at 7:30pm. Advance tickets are $15. Door tickets are sliding scale $5-20, with no one turned away for lack of funds.
Please note that each purchase is limited to four tickets maximum per person. If tickets are sold out here, don’t worry, we always hold a good amount at the door.
