RECURSIVE is the invention of Midwest Plenty and Petal Dance, two outfits that believe deeply in techno and bass music as community lightning rods and contributors to inclusive, intimate spaces on the dance floor. Recursive embodies these goals through recurrence, building upon each previous event, track, and beat.
For its first edition, Recursive and Midwest Plenty select the intrepid, socially conscious, underground DJ and producer Noncompliant. Since her last visit to DC in early 2018, Noncompliant began to experience the fruits of her 30 years of DJ toil, being booked at major events including “Club Toilet” in Detroit during Movement, and WHOLE festival in Leipzig. Her music also travels the world through her releases and remixes on renowned labels like Valence, Argot, Flash, and Dark Entries.
Her fellow main floor DJ, Juana, shares this passion for broadcasting her mixing and productions far about the earth. In fact, she will likely be jet lagged from her previous weekend playing a Sunday spot inside Berghain. The following week, she will then be at one of the final installments of the beloved Unter parties in NYC. Somehow we nabbed her precious talents for a few hours, even though her bed and pillow are here in DC.
For Owl Room’s second floor, Recursive selects a trio of versatile locals to provide a perfect sonic complement to the beatdown of the main floor. Soso Tharpa is a rising DC talent whose versatility in bass and techno most recently took him to London where he was featured alongside Ben UFO for a radio spot. Alongside Soso Tharpa is his dear friend and equally formidable talent, DJ Drink Water who hones his craft on his monthly WAVs show on Eaton Radio and at his numerous appearances at events in the DC area. The third DJ is a Recursive and Petal Dance organizer yuzhuu, who spent time living and organizing events in Denver and Boston before moving to the DMV.

Owl Room created a zero tolerance policy and all ticket holders will be expected to follow it.
