Munich has had a fair share of dance music history to tell and there’s no end in sight, thanks to people such as Dario and Marco Zenker. The two brothers, better known as the Zenker Brothers, aren’t just formidable DJs and producers in their own right, but acquired labelfounders too. Now turning 16, Ilian Tape has become a brand, a household name for progressive dance music, that has understood the golden ratio of techno and bass music and has fostered countless hours of formidable music at the confluence of blithe drum & bass, hazy halftime-steppers, meditative daydreaming and heavy break-beat artillery.
Ilian Tape’s birthday parties are known for their illustrious line-ups that give you a glimpse of the many musical facets the label has to offer. Skee Mask, Stenny and Zenker Brothers, core family members linked to the label's rise to fame, produce deep and seductive long, playing formats for late-night listening, but spin leftfield UK-tinged machine-funk for all night dancing, enamelled by an adventurous, IDM inspired mindset and dexterous fingers on the decks. Longtime affiliates Andrea and Konrad Wehrmeister, two more seasoned ambassadors of the unique Ilian Tape formula, summon broken beats with whizz and, above all, a stunning handling and understanding of cosmic and spherical textures for outstanding results and unique approaches to live performance and DJing.
New additions to the family include powerhouse duo Fireground and sound alchemists Jake Muir and Prime vertical. Fireground deliver stomping groove driven by the alluring Sturm & Drang attitude of their exhilarating live performance whereas Jake Muir and Prime Verikal excel with their subtly dystopian, yet balmy, engrossing and gripping ambient releases and live-performances.
