Feminist, diverse and genre-spanning, the Heroines of Sound festival supports the presence of women artists in the art and music worlds and makes the connections between different genres tangible. With ten concerts and a sound art exhibition, the tenth edition of the festival is dedicated to the thematic spectrum of microtonality, noise, and drones with performances by over fourty artists from twenty different countries of origin.
The electric guitar plays a special role this year: Catherine Lorent's multiple award-winning installation "Relegation" turns the sound of seven electric guitars into an experience as an electromagnetically controlled sound sculpture. As a final highlight, the fourth day of the festival puts the electric guitar in the spotlight. Performances by Ale Hop, Chra, Maya Shenfeld and new works by Ann Cleare, Katherine Young and Yoko Konishi allow the instrument to shine in all its diversity and span the arc to contemporary art music - whether with extended playing techniques, modification with other objects or with granular sound effects.
