✹ HARM REDUCTION BUDDY SYSTEM ✹
The Buddy System is a grassroots effort to combat rape culture, provide harm reduction, and enhance the safety of dance parties and events. Buddies will be wearing neon shirts and are NARCAN trained. They are carrying sealed water bottles, condoms, lube, granola bars, tampons, and more. They will run interference if someone is receiving unwanted attention, can help folks in need to find a way home, and generally serve as go-to support people should any problems arise.

Public Disco events aim to be a safe space for people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, abilities and sexual orientations to come together and enjoy music side by side. We encourage you to come dressed to express your own unique identify, and ask that you respect other people's right to do the same without judgment.
✹ THE LOCATION ✹
Bentall Centre’s Neighbourhood Patio pop-up offers live music, art, food, and drinks on select afternoons and evenings through the summer. We are excited to be activating this lush pop-up space surrounded by skyscrapers in Downtown Vancouver.
We acknowledge that this event takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples – the sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations. Public Disco connects people through music in under-utilized urban spaces from plazas and streets to industrial warehouse spaces.
✹ ORIGINS OF DANCE MUSIC ✹
Public Disco celebrates the vibrant, inclusive, and diverse history of dance music. Black, Queer, and Trans communities in Chicago and New York pioneered this culture, while it emerged locally in alternative art spaces and gay clubs like Graceland, Gandydancer, Faces, and the Odyssey. Dance music culture has always valued acceptance and celebrated diversity through music, with artists like Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan leading the way. We invite you to recognize and honor this history, involve marginalized communities in this culture, and celebrate their contributions to what makes dance music so special.

• Security is available to assist with accessibility entrances to the bar and dance floor for folks with wheelchairs
• Lower stimulation hangout zones can be found at public spaces outside the fenced zone
