  • It’s the summer of culture at BERLIN GLOBAL! The Schlüter courtyard at the Humboldt Forum will feature stand-up comedy by Enissa Amani, rap by Ezhel and set by DJ Ipek. BERLIN GLOBAL invites you to this fabulous outdoor evening as part of the Kultursommerfestival and the Open Space project “30 kg”. Admission to the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition is free for everyone throughout the evening. “30 kg” is the maximum weight of luggage allowed on flights between Germany and Turkey. But sometimes the meaning of those carefully packed belongings changes in the country of arrival. Seven women who immigrated from Turkey share their thoughts on migration in an Open Space of BERLIN GLOBAL. They reflect on the new and the old, on cultural codes and objects once taken for granted – things that are sorely missed or else have become superfluous. Often this transition from one place to another produces moments of both absurdity and humour. Enissa Amani No one knows this better than stand-up artist Enissa Amani, who makes diverse audiences laugh as she translates cultural codes with ease and charm. In doing so, she often touches on difficult subjects and uses humour to express the experiences of post-migrant society. The German-Iranian stand-up artist and activist is an authority when it comes to addressing injustices and demanding respect for human rights worldwide. Her work on stage and on television focuses on issues such as racism, sexism and discrimination, but also on trouble spots and terrorist regimes such as Iran, as well as international responsibility. Ezhel International hip hop, trap and reggae star Ezhel combines counterculture and Anatolian urban life in his socially critical songs. With his surprising and fresh lyrical style, he will “wipe the rust from your ears,” as the Turkish saying goes. Born in Ankara and living in Berlin, Ezhel released his first album “Müptezhel” in 2017, experimentally combining trap, hip-hop and reggae sounds. His genre-crossing, socially critical music also attracted many fans who hadn’t previously listened to rap. Since then, his resonance has been growing rapidly and internationally. DJ Ipek Once we’re all warmed up, DJ Ipek, one of the most significant figures in Berlin’s cultural scene, will round off the evening with her beats for us to dance and party to. DJ Ipek, producer, curator and queer activist, is one of Berlin’s most important cultural figures, according to Zitty magazine. With her Anatolian remixes, edits and electro-acoustic-to-techno-turka productions, she provides a unique and hybrid sound mix: psychedelic Turkish funk meets disco, ciftetelli meets house, Kurdish halay meets electro, traditional 9/8 beats meet Turkish tango and Anatolian folk songs meet techno. DJ Ipek is known for crossing borders; her music itself sets the agenda. Come celebrate the summer with us! We look forward to your company.
