Indie electronic duo, Optometry, return to Lodge Room on July 28, in support of legendary UK electronic producers Plaid. Since their debut live performance in March (also at the Lodge Room), Optometry have been back in the studio working on the new EP In-Visible-Distance. The EP is the follow up to the band’s debut album, After-Image, and includes an original work, a cover song, and star-studded remixes, including two from Plaid.
Plaid (Warp Records) will be making a stop at Lodge Room as part of their world tour. On the cusp of their 30th year with Warp Records, now is the time to reflect on the massively important presence of Plaid, aka Ed Handley and Andy Turner. An institution since the late ‘80s, they are monumental cornerstones for any self-respecting electronic music fan. Playful and wondrous, their 11th album ‘Feorm Falorx’ is gentler than the dark angularity of its predecessor, ‘Polymer,’ but no less deep, and maintains the melodicism for which Plaid are loved for.
Optometry is a Los Angeles-based band comprised of John Tejada and March Adstrum. Electronic artist Tejada handles the production duties while Adstrum takes care of vocals and guitars. The duo focus on themes of life, love and loss, weaving seductively melancholic textures together with synths, drum machines, guitars and bass. Adstrum’s ethereal voice and guitar work bring the electronics to life with heartfelt expression and emotion, while Tejada’s use of vintage rhythm boxes, synths and effects, provide a solid sense of authenticity.
This is an all ages show. Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $22 and are available on Lodge Room’s website.
