Community hosts another highly unique event at Soup Manchester on Sat Aug 5th, from 11pm - 4am, featuring the debut performance by Moroccan musician MOHAMMED ERREBBAA performing 'Gnawa' music live. Gnawa simply means ‘ the black people ‘ as in the West African people from Guinea / Mali / Nigeria / Western Sahara. They brought this sound to Morocco & Algeria. Gnawa is a Sufi trance / devotional music much loved around the world. Host DJ Irfan Rainy highlighted that the reason this sound resonated with him so deeply after going to Essaouira fifteen years ago to the Sacred Music Festival was that it sounded v similar to the Sufi music of Pakistan / India called 'Qawwali '. More people discovered this sound when Floating Points & James Holden recorded with the late Mallem Mahmoud Ghania, a legend in this music.
Moroccan musician Mohammed Errebbaa will perform live in Manchester, making his debut in the city. Expect a magical mystical music affair directly in line with where the Community party continues to grow. Irfan already plays a lot of modern Saharan electronic music at the party and the audience loves it.
