Efdemin returns to the club almost a year to the day after his last appearance. Efdemin was one of the first artists to play STUDIO in its opening months, and with good reason: his versatility and multifaceted nature makes him a perfect match for the room. But now the Berghain resident has the opportunity to flex his exceptional techno chops in BASEMENT. For an artist as dimensional as he is, Efdemin has no qualms about banging it out. On a recent excursion for Bassiani, he tears into it, bringing a roiling energy that sends shivers up your spine. Still, there’s always a dark mystery at the core, beckoning you to listen a little more deeply. Manchester’s Setaoc Mass makes his debut. This set is for the true heads: the SK_eleven label boss keeps his tracks distilled and snarling. No quarter is brooked for the uninitiated or the milquetoast - Setaoc Mass drives the dancefloor with heaving, unapologetic momentum. Sploofi makes her debut. She’s been carving out her own space in the NY landscape, with a run of outstanding appearances and collaborations. Her sets breathe with a natural rhythm, articulating vivid shapes in the darkness. Nicolò Bernardi taps into a hypnotic and cinematic vein, with a mercurial allure that is precision tooled for heady raves.
Kevin Aviance is a true icon of the NY queer community and club culture. Active since the dawn of the ‘90s, Aviance was one of the era's definitive queens and a producer with certified club hits. Tracks like “Rhythm Is My Bitch” and “Give It Up” were anthems for a generation of club kids and dancers, and Aviance’s “Cunty” was recently sampled by Beyoncé on her track “PURE/HONEY,” introducing a new generation to Aviance’s unmistakable music. Jason Kendig matches the energy with a seasoned touch: the Honey Soundsystem co-founder is a DJs DJ, who brings a rich texture to the DJ booth every time. LA artist Kim Anh balances the night with a dash of dark desire. Her tracks exude a glamorous menace, pulling on the nocturnal evocations of the ‘80s, while her DJ sets mine a rich seam of post disco and proto-house genres.
