One-of-a-kind DJ and producer Wordcolour (Houndstooth, Lapsus) headlines the fifth instalment of Lost Valley, supported by the mesmeric groove of A'Bear's live set, plus residents Kid Who (.NFO, Dawn State) and Odd Lust (The Trilogy Tapes).
Wordcolour is UK-based Producer and DJ Nicholas Worrall. His debut EP ‘Tell Me Something’ was released by Barcelona’s Lapsus Records in July 2020, quickly followed up with the ‘Juno Way' EP for the Fabric-affiliated label Houndstooth, described by DJMag as “three tracks of emotional, beautifully designed electronic music for both the dancefloor and for headphones”. In 2022 he released his more ambient-focused debut LP ‘The trees were buzzing, and the grass’, and this year has caused quite a stir in the club scene with his "Ratios" series of 2-trackers for Houndstooth, which along with a series of collab and remix releases in 2023, place Wordcolour firmly back in experimental club territory.
As a club DJ, his sets are full of twists and turns. At times deep, at times raucous, they explore a wide variety of styles and tempos whilst staying focussed on the journey. He has recorded mixes for Bizarro, Bleep and FACT, and as well as radio slots for Rinse, Noods, and KEXP. With each set a unique pathway into his musical world, we can't wait to see what he brings to The Carpet Shop's intimate dancefloor.
A’Bear is a multi continental psychedelic electronic producer and DJ making cosmically inspired sounds composed of hypnotising trance like melodic layers of loops woven through intricate beats. South African born, Australian raised, and London grown- Janine A’Bear’s music production and live performances encourage inclusivity and induce dream-like states of consciousness on the dance floor for all to enjoy.
Described by Resident Advisor as ‘wonderfully unhinged’, A’Bear combines psychedelic polyrhythms with distorted bass lines and warped vocals. Her sound is in a constantly emerging, evolving flow residing somewhere between krautrock/komische tinged tangerine-esque dreamy undercurrents combined with repetitive meditative bass lines and arpeggiated digital synthetic melodies and rhythms.
Kid Who is a DJ and producer who has released on labels such as Rotten City Records, his own imprint Bravura, and most recently with 2022’s Warez House EP on Dawn State which saw heavy rotation on the DJ circuit last year. This year he launched the label .NFO in collaboration with the mighty Klasse Wrecks, featuring previously unreleased house, techno, acid and more from the 90s Amiga Demoscene. His recent residency on Bristol's swu.fm showcased his unique brand of dance music, taking in everything from machine house, stripped back acid and dusty techno to left field disco, new wave and EBM rarities.
Odd Lust is a DJ and producer who made his debut on The Trilogy Tapes in 2020 with the Wild Qualia EP. More recently he has contributed a remix for Elijah's Yellow Squares project. As a DJ he has held a residency at Soho Radio as well as various local nights, and contributed mixes for the likes of Don't Be Afraid, Accidental Meetings and Kindred Radio. His sets join the dots between classic Detroit techno and electro, golden era IDM, forward-thinking bass music, breakbeat and much more.
Lost Valley is a new night running the third Thursday of the month at The Carpet Shop, Peckham.
Expect dance sounds on and off the beaten track as we embark on our adventure in search of the Lost Valley.
