We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our first event at The Baths, with a line up many years in the making. The combination of artists, space and audience promises to be another memorable installment in our series of deep listening events. As ever, we aim to create a space for total immersion in sound. A space where it’s possible to move beyond the day to day and travel far into distant worlds of music.
John Elliot’s Imaginary Softwoods project and his numerous other releases as a member of Outer Space, Mist, the legendary drone trio Emeralds and many others, are beacons for explorers of the outer reaches of transcendent sound. Whether directing his machines to plumb the icy resonances of crystal ponds or capturing oblique bucolic scenes, John has restlessly searched the fringes of what is possible in so-called ambient music. Polite it is not, but awe inspiring and transformative it most certainly is.
An inspiration to many, not only for his own music but also the epoch shaping contribution of his label Spectrum Spools, we’re very proud to welcome John over from the US for his first ever solo show in the UK.
Ana Quiroga makes her first appearance at Bleep43 having just released Azabache, her debut solo album on Houndstooth. We’ve admired the emotional weight, meticulous sound design and sheer accomplishment of Ana’s live and recorded work for some time, both as a solo artist and in partnership with Uge Pañeda as LCC on Editions Mego. We’re greatly looking forward to her performance at The Baths, which promises to make full use of the sonic possibilities of the space.
Ali Wade returns to Bleep43 after so ably shepherding us all between the live performances at our Jacksons Lane event last Summer. As well as a talented synthetist in his own right and founder of the wonderful Frequency Domain label, Ali’s decades of DJing experience and ability to draw the right record at the right time are always in evidence as he helps listeners on their journey through the musical proceedings.
Loula Yorke also makes her Bleep43 debut this November, joining us from Suffolk. The recipient of an Oram award, Loula conjures and explores entire worlds with the most minimal tools, like Daphne Oram herself. Through skilfully applied repetition, mutation and extension, her tumbling arpeggios seek ecstatic conclusions at times reminiscent of the warped diversions of The Black Dog in their prime.
If you’d like to lie down during the event there will be a number of mats and beanbags available, but we’d also encourage you to bring your own mats and cushions so that you can be as comfortable as possible.
The Baths is a fully wheelchair accessible venue and includes a cafe that will be serving vegan and vegetarian food and drinks throughout the event. Please do not bring your own drinks.
There are also a number of saunas at the venue which will be available before, during and after the event. We recommend booking these early since they’re very popular.
We’ll have merchandise for sale during the event, including releases from our guest artists, Bleep43 crew, including Jo Johnson, Plant43 and Bea Brennan, and releases on Frequency Domain and its sub labels.
