  • An evening of live electronic music followed by an afterparty with all of the artists DJing.  Synkro Manchester’s Joe McBride pens elaborate, emotive & intellectual soundscapes, drawing in influences across a spectrum of bass culture and electronica. Having released with Exit Records, Brownswood, Styrax, Auxiliary & Med School, as well as remixes for Model 500, Snow Patrol, Lowb & a plethora more, Synkro has most recently found a home at R&S sister label ‘Apollo’.  Major support for Synkro’s music has come from names like Chris Coco, Giles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Prefuse 73 and dBridge. A truly staple artist in the timeline of UK Bass. catHead catHead is a new electronic music project working across genres, most notably blending elements of ambient, electroacoustic, techno, downtempo, breakbeat and UK bass. catHead designs and builds their own experimental instruments from recycled materials and uses them alongside vocals, environmental recordings and a variety of hardware, traditional acoustic and electronic instruments. Producing ethereal soundscapes, pulsating bass rhythms and glistening textures punctuated by natural sounds and metallic drum hits, catHead’s music evokes a warm sense of nostalgia whilst also hinting towards an eerie dystopian future.  Hannibal Rex Enigmatic, sarcastic and self-aware; Hannibal Rex is something of a mystery. Their sound is equidistant between electronic bass music and Californian desert rock, seasoned with a dry wit associated with Salfordian poets. Though their sound hasn’t reached many ears, it has deeply affected those it has. After recently playing several shows across the Maritimes of Canada they will be bringing a live set incorporating the sensibilities of their dichotomous musical background: expect psychedelic guitars, chunky polyrhythms and some surprisingly catchy lyrics. TAU23 After producing & DJing together for well over a decade in various guises including support slots for Hot Chip & Mike Skinner DJ sets, Manchester duo TAU23's debut live set brings together a collection of esoteric electronics for an atmospheric journey through their influences, from ambient to modular techno. A collection of brand new material sees the pair patch, program and play in a loosely improvisational manner between more focussed moments where the chaos is reigned in to allow the underlying beats & bass drive forwards. catHead is the alias of Gwen Siôn, an award-winning composer, producer, pianist and multidisciplinary artist working with sound, sculpture, DIY electronics, moving image and installation. She creates multi-instrumental, vocal and electronic compositions, and makes her own hand-built instruments and sculptural sound devices by repurposing both natural and industrial materials. Gwen is interested in exploring ways of interpreting landscape in musical terms and the relationship between sound and environment, ecology, mythology, ritual and synaesthetic crossover. She has worked on a broad range of music and sound projects, commissions, public installations, performances, exhibitions and residencies throughout the UK and internationally, having gained support from organisations such as Arts Council England, Arts Foundation, Sound and Music, British Music Collection, PRS Foundation, Ty Cerdd, Wales Millennium Centre, Sound UK, Atelier11 Paris, Greywood Arts Ireland, StokkoyArt Norway, University of the Arts London, Netflix, Leland Music, BBC and Liquid Listening. Gwen’s music won the 2021 LMVH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) X Central Saint Martins ‘Maison/0 This Earth Award’ (a prize championing sustainable arts practice and works that advocate for nature), was nominated and subsequently shortlisted for the 2021 ‘MullenLowe NOVA Awards’ and was also shortlisted for the 2021 ‘Sustainability First Art Prize’. Last year Netflix and Leland Music selected Gwen to take part in a composer mentee development programme supporting two emerging composers to work on the new season of Top Boy in order to gain an insight into composing for film and TV, receiving advice and mentorship from the series composers Brian Eno and Mikey J Asante. Gwen was also recently nominated for the 2023 Electronic Music Award (Arts Foundation Futures Awards) and was subsequently shortlisted and awarded as one of four finalists across the UK for the category. Funding awarded by Sound and Music's New Voices programme and the Arts Council England DYCP grant has supported the development of a new experimental electronic music alias – catHead, as a result Gwen is undertaking a tour of live performances to launch the project taking place between August and November 2023.
