Following two parties with Club Nacht, Hobbes Music is back at Bongo, celebrating a full decade of releasing music on vinyl, in two instalments.
For Part I, HM welcomes Scottish nightlife & international DJing legend JD Twitch (Optimo, Pure) to rinse out the party in his unique way!
JD TWITCH (Optimo)
With a worldwide touring schedule that has seen him travelling relentlessly over the last decade, a label (Optimo Music) and record bag that knows no bounds, Twitch has a voracious appetite for music new, old and simply forgotten, consistently seeks to champion undiscovered artists and unchartered terrain and is intimately acquainted with what makes a party pop off. Expect the unexpected and dress to sweat!
Having first met (an extremely keen, young) Hobbes at Pure (his original residency, which set the tone for Scottish techno) in 90s Edinburgh, Twitch provided a remix for Hobbes Music's debut vinyl release (2013), offering consistent support and occasional advice over the years.
As well as being the first time he's played the Bongo in about a decade, this will be the first time he's shared a bill with Hobbes since 1999 - a well overdue booking!
EXTERIOR
Label artist Exterior will drop the ace live set with which he's been creating such a buzz at previous HM events, Hidden Door's festivals '23 & '22 and Glasgow's Bloc & Attack/Release events (among others).
Having released a lauded three-track EP via HM in 2019 and an equally impressive debut album last year, the Exterior live set is gnarly as hell, with few parallels in the contemporary scene - an essential experience.
HOBBES
Label owner and promoter Hobbes provides Room 1 support, equally celebrating a diverse spectrum of both brand new and classic electronic music, not least via his productions with production buddy Leonidas.
Their 2017 release Rags Of Time (notably lead track Web Of Intrigue) was massive on the Balearic house/disco scene, with their 2021 follow-up EP, Aranath, generating a similar buzz and a debut album now due for release early '24.
With equally hyped releases from fellow label artists Kota Motomura and Kiji Suedo (via Tokyo and Osaka, respectively), Edinburgh’s Jacksonville, George T, Exterior and DALI, Glasgow’s Gaming, Maastricht Research (in Norway) and latest signing Galun (Moscow, via Tallinn), running the gamut from new shades of house, electro and techno, wild worldwide flavours, experimental electronics to heady IDM, weighty dub vibes and blissed out ambient, there’s an HM release for just about every occasion but also plenty of dance floor bombs in the bank…
UPLANDS ROAST
For the upstairs space, Uplands Roast bring the mash-up of dub reggae, jungle and breaks witnessed at their recent sold out events at Bongo. Irie.
ANDROMEDA SOUNDS
Andromeda bring their refreshing spin of dance music, following packed out events at Bongo and guest spots around town.
