  • We’re excited to announce the 2nd edition of CHTHONIC taking place Friday 24 and Saturday 25 November at IKLECTIK and Ormside Projects on Saturday night from 11:30pm. Deriving from the Greek word “χθών”, a more direct translation of Chthonic would be “χθόνιος” which means "under, or beneath the earth”. CHTHONIC II seeks to engage with the darker elements of experimental sound and performance whilst fostering an alternative environment open to self expression for both our audience and performers. Our first evening explores ritual practices and contemporary queer performance culture. Commissioned by IKLECTIK, Future Ritual present their latest piece of work “A Felling”, a journey through ideas surrounding death, remembrance, transformation and rebirth. Our second event sees us inviting four experimental acts all at the forefront of their respective fields, whilst the third event takes the IKLECTIK programme out of the traditional venue environment and into the late night club context of Ormside Projects. Warning: Some performances might use strobes and/or flashing lights. Programme: Event 1 at IKLECTIK | 24/11 from 8pm: Featuring “A Felling” by Future Ritual [Joseph Morgan Schofield, Ash McNaughton and Marcel Sparmann]. Commissioned by IKLECTIK. Event 2 at IKLECTIK | 25/11 from 6pm: Alkistis Dimech ONY Jose Macabra RONCE Event 3 at Ormside Projects 25/11 from 11:30pm: Kiik Amorm Pharmakon Proteus [DJ] REKA [DJ] Artists: Ash McNaughton Ash McNaughton implements methods of endurance, repetition, and resistance to access altered states of being while reaching out into the spaces in-between. Their actions encourage a synergetic exchange between their physical, psychological and spiritual body and the environments they inhabit. Joseph Morgan Schofield Joseph Morgan Schofield creates future ritual. Their practice foregrounds desire, grief and wildness in the context of queer and ecological futurity; their acts of gathering and communion articulating a deep yearning - for both that which is lost, and that which is yet to arrive. Marcel Sparmann Marcel Sparmann focuses on the creation of intense collective situations, compressed and formed in emotional and spiritual landscapes, in resistance. He is interested in the exploration of a more profound understanding for compassion, kindness and bravery in the light of an unfolding vulnerability. Ronce Blending predatory ASMR, field recordings and distorted frequencies, Ronce is a crude first hand experience of what’s like to be a young woman constantly subjected to the eyes and the hands of men. The aim of this musical and performative project is to cause extreme uneasiness in the listener, frequently breaking the threshold of catharsis. Jose Macabra Jose Rivas, aka Jose Macabra, is a versatile artist, sound designer, producer, video director, radio DJ/podcast maker, and curator. He teaches Sound Arts and Music Production at the London College of Communications, UAL. His work is influenced by various genres, including industrial and noise music, sound art, and experimental music. Jose has collaborated with and worked for various organizations and individuals, including Kimatica Studio, Persona Collective, Vibrant Matter, FFIN DANCE Company, and Rum Luck Theatre Company. ONY ONY is a DJ, producer who has been crafting stories on his genre-bending NTS show. He mines whatever he finds to craft an immersive and strange musical environment. His shows are by turn dark, ethereal and uncanny, often all at once. Alkistis Dimech Alkistis Dimech is an artist, dancer and writer exploring the carnal body and its subtle anatomy through an archaeology and poietics of flesh. Her art is grounded in ankoku butô (dark dance), and antinomian dance after Nietzsche. Since 2002, she has performed in the UK, Europe and the United States, and collaborated with musicians and artists, notably Z’EV, Gast Bouschet & Nadine Hilbert, and Anji Cheung. With Peter Grey she is the co-founder of Scarlet Imprint, a small press which publishes practitioner-oriented works on magic, esotericism and the sacred. REKA Well known for DJ sets and productions oscillating between dystopian aesthetics and illuminating energy, REKA has cultivated a very personal approach to heady electronic music. Demonstrating selections from contemporary techno to the genre’s prototypical past of electro and wave, her sets are a highly sensitive affair; maneuvering seamlessly through dance music’s multitude of permutations, blending together into a carefully narrated story that ebbs and flows with her artistic vision and prowess Pharmakon Industrial / Noise / Power Electronics project active since 2007. Solo endeavor of Margaret Chardiet, an interdisciplinary sound artist born and based in New York City. A celebration of ferality and viscereality. Abandonment of a society that has never accepted anything it couldn’t also exploit. Chardiet uses electronic synthesis as a tool to transfer this self-possession physiologically and intra-spatially into the bodies of their audience. Timbre becomes temper. Tameless social contagion. Biorhythm. Kiik Amor Kiik Amor is an exhilarating live performer and experimental music composer. Kiik combines savage audio rot, broken pop melodies, and active noise to create diverse hyper-sonic worlds. Kiik detaches herself from reality through invigorating choreographed movement, the destruction of audio and ethereal vocals, crushing any notion of tempo and key. Angelic, surreal, and disorientating music.
