Grey Matter aims to showcase up-and-coming artists with a blend of well-respected names within the Minimal/Tech House scene.
Our second instalment Grey Matter 02 will be headlined by Lucas Alexander, Rarebit Records label boss. Lucas is no ordinary artist. With a mixture of heritage from Wales to Jamaica, the fusion of his upbringing is far from short in his music. A graduate of the university of UKG, he is on the verge of a massive year, with tracks such as ‘Hands On The Box’ a collaboration with Chicago's late great DJ Deeon, released on the iconic New York label Nervous Records topping the Traxsource Minimal / Deep Tech Chart.
Alexander’s perfected a new sound merging Minimal, Garage and Tech House, with his glitched-out, playful 4:4 tracks making their way into the sets of Jamie Jones, The Martinez Brothers, Marco Corolla, Richy Ahmed, Darius Syrossian and many more.
2023 started big, with Alexander’s release “Alright Or What” premiering on TBX and getting play-outs on BBC Radio 1, Kiss and featuring in Beatport’s Minimal / Deep Tech Top 10. The year continues to be big with Alexander’s ‘Money Money Remix’ released on his own imprint ‘Rarebit Records’, giving him his fourth consecutive Beatport top 10.
Born and raised in Cardiff, the Jamaican-Welsh artist’s early years were influenced by dubstep, Jungle and UKG. That playfulness shines through his expert productions, which are full of sampled British chit-chat and unexpected yet perfectly-timed cracked-up beats. With releases still to come on HE.SHE.THEY, Defected Records and Pitch London among others, Lucas is set to end the year even stronger than it started.
Supporting Lucas on the night are Rarebit Record honchos Joey Rich and SAPNiN for a special b2b set. Joey Rich is swiftly carving out a prominent position in the electronic music realm, captivating audiences with his high energy set inspired by his deep love of speed Garage-and 90’s house.
Elevating the energy levels of dance floors across Cardiff, he holds the esteemed title of resident DJ at the illustrious club night, Shangri-la, supporting some of the worlds biggest DJ’s such as Darius Syrossian, Seb Zito, Sosa and Skream. With his trademark high-octane sets, he consistently commands the attention of a packed crowd, leaving an indelible mark on the nightlife scene.
SAPNiN are no strangers to the scene with high profile support shows from industry leading names such as the Chemical Brothers. Their debut release on Rarebit Records 'Money Money smashed the Beatport charts, topping the Garage category with plays from big names across the circuit.
The party will take place across 2 rooms, with a 'Boiler Room' Style set-up in the main room. We strive to create the best party atmosphere possible by enhancing production and putting our unique spin on the venue. Look out for our tailored visual show and art installations on the night.
