Cause & Effect: Clarisa Kimskii, BEIGE, C.K

  • On December 16th, Cause & Effect takes over Market Hotel for its latest collective vibration: a dip into dancefloor bliss with Clarisa Kimskii, BEIGE, and C.K at the controls. Masters of the dance floor flow state, these artists will deliver a simmering journey through house, acid, juke, and pure deep techno in the main room. Once immersed, you might find it hard to tear yourself away. We'll also have the side room jumping with the audio stylings of C&E mainstays Shameless, Union, Reid Golden, Srebs, and of course GARBAGE. This'll be no chill-out room: attendees of our last Market function may have vivid memories of jackin' house and punchy electro bouncing off the cinder block walls and into a sweaty crowd with just enough room to dance. We hope to take it there again. Follow us on Instagram or Telegram for a couple more surprises before the party gets started: @causeandeffectny on both platforms. See you soon ~~~ Artist profiles ~~~ ---- Clarisa Kimskii ---- Taking the reins for the closing set this Saturday night is none other than New York techno mainstay Clarisa Kimskii. Known for a highly kinetic, subtly blissful style of techno, Clarisa delivers a transcendent set every time she's on the decks. We couldn't end our party in better hands. Clarisa's distinctive style was forged through countless hours of techno immersion. Originally from Washington, D.C., she spent years living in Berlin where, by her own reckoning, she spent nearly every weekend within the walls of Berghain re-learning "what it was to be a raver". That dancer-first perspective bleeds through into her sets, which are often complex percussion explorations with a simple end: movement. Clarisa got the chance to complete the circle earlier this month by playing Berghain herself and educating a new generation of dancers on what it means to move. Now based in New York, Clarisa is a resident DJ for the indomitable MERGE party, whose mission it is to deliver "queer rejuvenation through techno", and candidly have the best rave flyers we've ever seen. For a taste of this rejuvenating energy, dive into Clarisa's recent mix for Resident Advisor, a "free, fluid but also remarkably precise" hour of techno intented to give a snippet of what you might expect to hear from Clarisa in a club setting. Link below ---- BEIGE ---- It's our pleasure to welcome the one and only BEIGE back to the decks for another ecstatic trip through peak time. One thing you should know: BEIGE isn’t afraid to play the hits. Whether it’s a house edit of “Jolene”, a deep take on “All I Do”, or even a bootleg jungle rendition of “Take Me Higher”, BEIGE layers familiar phrases over immaculately selected house, techno and breaks, giving the crowd an emotional anchor amongst the driving drums. As much as they’re a heavy-hitter in peak time, they may be at their most devestating on the cool down, where forward movement gives way to warm feelings of desire and deliverance, softer sounds wafting over the crowd with the same effect as a breath of fresh air. BEIGE also holds a special place in C&E’s own story: they played our first ever show at Market Hotel, setting the tone for our party early on. We couldn’t be happier with the note they struck. For the uninitiated, a listen to BEIGE’s AMEN! Vol. 1 mixtape is mandatory listening. Released through the wonderful T4T LUV NRG imprint, the tape confronts the listener with a tapestry of high-contrast breaks, house, and gospel, all imbued with gigawatts of soul power. This is not your next background mix - it’s a chance at redemption. Link below ---- C.K ---- Prepare to be locked into a night of irresistible, heady house cuts courtesy of C.K, an immensely talented DJ, producer, and label boss joining us all the way from Aarhus, Denmark. C.K's club sets offer an ideal experience for the dancefloor adherent. Typically simmering, percussion-forward affairs, these sonic excursions establish a deeply felt groove early on and then drive forward with variations in style that keep it endlessly fresh. Every so often, C.K will spot an opening and push the energy into a hard-earned state of euphoria - rewarding all those who have been along for the ride. Armed with a crate full of the best tracks you've never heard before, C.K has built a bit of a cult following (ourselves included) only amplified by his prolific output as a producer. Whether releasing music through legendary collaborative endeavors Regelbau or 2 Bit Crew, or through his own label PRS (Private Recording Systems), C.K's tracks have a timeless, balanced quality to them that makes for wonderful home listening while still packing more than enough punch for the club. But don't just take our word for it. Here's a comment one swashbuckling fan left on C.K's Discogs page: "Yarrrr C.K be a legendary buckaneer of the electronic high seas yyarrrrrrr his SAFE mixes be known far and wide throughout the aquasphere yarrr plunder some'a his dope records while ye can yar" Aye aye, captain! For a slice of the energy, we highly recommend a listen to C.K's 2022 Oddysee mix. I promise you'll be out of your seat practicing your two-step before the last track runs out. Link below to dive in.
