unexpected music festival - day 3

  • FESTIVAL FOR EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC Born in 1997, the young Georgian Anushka Chkheidze is one of the promising talents far beyond the country’s borders; she has already collaborated several times with the Berlin musician Robert Lippok, one of her most important mentors. Growing up in the small village of Kharagauli, she began singing in the choir at the age of 11. She herself describes the time spent there as magical and believes that her music is strongly influenced by those childhood years. She released first tracks on the compilation “Sleepers Poets Scientists” curated by Natalie Beridze in January 2019, followed by her debut album “Halfie” in April 2020. Her second album “Move 20-21” was created during the pandemic and addresses the absence of physical movement and interaction with other people, released in February 2021. Immediately after a residency in Berlin as part of the Goethe-Nachwuchs and in collaboration with Popkultur Festival 2022, she began her two-year Master of Music Design program at HKU in Utrecht/NL. Anushka Chkheidze continues to collaborate with choirs, resulting in a composition commission from the Swiss-Georgian festival Close Encounters for the highly regarded Gori Women’s Choir in Georgia. In the newly renovated research center in Basel, Switzerland, she made field recordings as well as piano and choir recordings last year, leading to her upcoming album “Clean, Clear and White” to be released in 2023. The year 2023 is marked by invitations to major cross-genre festivals such as Haldern Pop in Germany, Georgian Tkeshi Festival, the Laiks Dejot Festival in Riga and the Trans Musicales in Rennes. Teichmann + Soehne’s »Flows« is not so much the result of a collaborative process as it is a process in itself. Over the course of nine pieces, the Gebrüder Teichmann – Andi and Hannes – and their father Uli repeatedly find common ground between the very different musical styles, sound aesthetics, and subcultural codes they have internalised throughout their lives. The combination of Uli’s background as a versatile jazz artist and multi-instrumentalist with his sons’ penchant for dub techniques, modular synthesis, and live sampling as well as their interest in electronic dance music take on ever-different shapes. Their album »Flows« released on the occasion of Uli’s 80th birthday in 2023, is as joyful, lively and free-spirited as its makers. ELEKTRO GUZZI have been called many names: man-machine, clockwork, techno organism. A trio of guitar, bass and drums, Elektro Guzzi overcome the boundary between analogue versus digital, performing techno live with the drive of a machine and the sonic detail of an instrument – without any computers or loopers. The unparalleled appeal of their unique, energetic live performance – you see how every sound is created, right there, on the spot – has made them a primary choice for cutting edge dance music festivals like Roskilde, Sónar (2x official program), Mutek, Melt!, Stop Making Sense, C/O Pop, Eurosonic, Extrema, Iceland Airwaves, Sziget, Dancity, Spring Festival and many more across Europe, North and Latin America and Japan. In addition to that, their journey has taken Elektro Guzzi to most of Europe’s clubs, including performances at Fabric and every single floor at Berghain. A collaborative EP with KiNK here, a new audio-visual live show there, a Resident Advisor podcast or an album with a trombone ensemble in between – Elektro Guzzi are always on the move, always evolving. The trio’s latest brainchild is their own label Palazzo Recordings, a DIY platform for rougher sounds and works by visual artists, with a series of parties in their hometown of Vienna to celebrate each release. Doors: 19:00 NO SPACE FOR SEXSIM, RACISM, HOMOPHOBIA & TRANSPHOBIA! ROTE SONNE IS A SAFE SPACE FOR EVERYONE, PLEASE RESPECT THAT!
