  • On Friday, 12 January, 2024, LAS Art Foundation invites you to celebrate the finissage of Lawrence Lek's exhibition NOX with a music programme curated by the artist. Throughout the evening and into the night, the programme will comprise a conversation between Lawrence and our Senior Curator Carly Whitefield, a live performance by Kloxii Li and DJ sets by Sin Maldita, Soda Plains and DJ Paypal – all set inside the fictional near-future landscapes of NOX. There are three ticket types available. You can choose to attend the whole event or join us for one of the two evening slots outlined below (live programme, DJ programme, or both). Live Programme (18:30 – 21:45) 18:30 – Entry and exhibition visit 19:30 – Artist Talk: Lawrence Lek in conversation with Carly Whitefield 21:00 – Performance by Kloxii Li DJ Sets (22:00 – 01:00) 22:00 – Sin Maldita 22:45 – Soda Plains 23:30 – DJ Paypal 01:00 – Closing Kloxii Li (Kloh-shee-Lee), hailing from Hunan and Los Angeles, creates sounds that reflect the essence of cultural memory, seamlessly interweaving East-West influences in her sonic journeys. Kloxii's debut album, Gentle Impermanence 神遊間, appeared on Bié Records, Beijing, and has been described as an “immersive experience leading the listener to confront the lingering echoes of loss.” Employing ambient and ethereal soundscapes, hauntologic melodies, hypnotic trip-hop rhythms and soft vocals, Kloxii's work evokes a vivid contrast and careful harmony that push the boundaries of her contemporary sonic palette. Sin Maldita’s club-leaning experimental electronic music seeks to strike an uncanny chord between abrasiveness and accessibility. Their 2020 debut album, You’re Trouble, offers hybrid club music composed of shattering beats, bent samples, trance and footwork echoes, combined with ghostly, warped vocal melodies. The recently released EP Accela, in collaboration with Lila Tirando a Violeta, has been referred to as "fiendishly intense industrial", blending thundering drums, dreamy soundscapes and impish vocals. Soda Plains is the producer and DJ Alexis Chan. With his roots in club music, Soda Plains’ sonic output moves seamlessly between genres, conjuring a multifaceted language of its own. Following a percussion-heavy turn on PAN’s 12” club series, his latest EP, Living with Elvis, lingers on this territory while balancing moments of harmonic confession with increasingly autobiographical narratives. Having grown up in Hong Kong, Chan is now based between London and Berlin, a circuit that can be detected in his work. Renowned for their work in edit culture and contributions to Footwork and Juke, DJ Paypal is a pivotal figure in electronic music. They are part of the Chicago footwork collective Teklife, while their creative output extends across labels such as Hyperdub, Planet Mu, and their own label Mall Music Inc. As the head of the latter, DJ Paypal has outlined a new take on footwork laden with lush synthesisers and hi-definition sonics, releasing EPs, singles and bootlegs. Their proper external debut, Buy Now, explores soul and disco influences, while Sold Out on Flying Lotus’ LA-based label Brainfeeder stands as a testament to their versatility at 160 BPM. EARLY BIRD Tickets (25€ Complete Finissage Programme) are available until 8 January 2025 in the ticket shop.
